Corsair landing.. BUG ??

No matter how perfect I land the corsair on any runway or on grass (anywhere accept carrier)  it spins out and damages wings.  No matter how slow and perfect the landing it does it EVERY time.  Somebody tried to tell me its because of then engine torque, that doesent make any sense seeing as how the engine is at very little throttle or none at all when i land, i even tried it with the engine off and it does it.  I dont have this problem with ANY other plane in the game, and never have.

Whats the deal??

Land with slow speed, let her settle to rwy and pull stick back while brakeing to keep tail on ground.

OR even don't use the brakes at all. You don't need them.

Yep, and I usually have that stall horn blaring at me when the wheels touch down (don't 'bounce' it!)...I still manage to ground loop occasionally as I'm usually typing 'orders' to some folks nearby (ie. where do we go from here?)

Well they beat me too it. Over the fence no faster than 110, slower if possible. Flaps down. Stay off the brakes until under 70 and minimal rudder input if you have to. Works best if you just glide to a stop actually.

Cut the engine off as you fly over the end of the runway.  That's what I did until I got used to the torque.  Use right and left brakes in addition to rudder to keep her lined up.

I agree with Wobble. In the few instances ive taken an F4U up and landed it, it hits the ground, starts to slow down and suddenly it flips to one side.

Now, I can accept its torque, but I turn off engine and shift-x just before hitting the runway... no combat trim. It still does it.

Not that I care, I love to see chogs flip over on landing

Phew!  I'm SOOO glad someone else asked this question, and you all responded.  Its awful embarassing to land, ground loop, break a wing tip off and roll backwards into your teamates....       <blush>

I'll try these ideas, much appreciated!

I used to ground loop alot until I learnt to use left and right wheelbrakes instead of the rudder.

The tiffie (and tempest even more so) seem to be very prone to rolling. I use either the left or right wheel brakes to keep the plane rolling down the runway, and let it slowly come to a halt. I might apply both wheelbrakes together once the plane has almost come to a stop. I never use the rudder once on the ground, and land and t/o with combat trim applied.

This approach even works is you land bumpily or at a higher than ideal speed (for instance if you have flap damage).

Ok, ive tried everythign you have said, and I actually got it to land correctly..TWICE, the other 7 times no matter what it spun around and damaged the wing.
I think its a bit TOO prone to spin, even at 100 mph gentle as a feather landing it did it to me 3 times.  

I usually am not one to question the FM of planes...but something just isnt quite right with that thing...it handles as if the gear were 1 foot apart....just the SLIGHTEST twitch and it spins out... something is wrong here.

Rocket's landing steps for a good hog landing.
(I haven't ground looped in forever)
1. Rudder plane in flight on approach to bleed some speed off.
2. Start dropping flaps at around 250mph and gear.(Gear are the official hog dive brakes, at sea level good usually up to 350mph) This will help slow the plane.
3. Have throttle cut back but be ready to work the throttle abit to maintain a steady glide plath.
4. For Carrier landing don't forget the hook  
5. Touch down at about 100mph-110mph. Kill Throttle
6. Once below 90mph hold stick back to keep tail wheel on ground.
7. Use small rudder adjustments if needed. Don't touch the brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. Roll out down the runway till speed is 50mph or less!!!!!!!!!! MOST IMPORTANT STEP!
9. After less than 50mph apply brakes normally. Proportional braking is not needed in most cases.
10. Taxi normally to re-arm pad and juice back up for the next sortie.  Don't forget to take the flaps back up or take off will surprise ya!

This seems to be the key to avoiding it.

At any rate there is still something amiss...the Corsair's gear are not any closer together than any other plane's yet it handles as though they are very close together, which is why its so tippy.

Ground loops have more to do with the placement of the C.G. relative to the main gear more then anything else. That is why a tri-cycle landing permits easier ground handling (i.e.- For a tri-gear A/C the c.g. is ahead of the main gear which makes it dynamically stable, where-as a tail dragger has the c.g. behind the main gear which makes it neutrally to slightly unstable dynamically.)

I have found that where you really have to watch the Corsair on take-off and landing is during the transition while lifting the tailway off the runway, and conversly on landing, when lowering the tailwheel. I don't know if this swing is caused by gyroscopic precession of the propellor (not the same as Torque), the blanketing of the rudder by the fuselage as the tail settles, or some combination of both. I have also noticed that the effect tends to 'reverse' as you lower the tail (i.e.- I think it wants to swing left first, then right) so you don't overcorrect or she'll bite ya anyway. If all the advice you receive in this thread doesn't work, just land it on the carrier. The tailhook has always kept me from ground looping it on the carrier   . Well on landings anyway. We won't discuss carrier take offs   .
