The way collisions work, changed?
« on: November 28, 2009, 01:29:39 AM »
The last 6 times players have collided with me I've gone down with them. This never use to be the case.

Has anyone else notice this?

Are you implying that you ram on purpose???  :huh ;) :noid

I haven't collided with anyone yet so I wouldn't know. Kinda hard to to collide with someone with the sky being as big as it is.

Remember, they've been colliding with me.

Some guy collided with me, and I got the kill and flew away fine.

Its just a matter of whether you both get the collision message or one of you or both got shot before or not... really. Sounds confusing but think about it and it will become clear.

Actually, in the case that you do not get a "You have collided" message and yet still go down, he flew through you with his guns blazing. He shot you down.

Same as ever for me.

Seems to still work fine.

You mean, you're only seeing the white collision message and you are going down?  If that's the case they are shooting you.

Not too long ago, P38 sneaks up behind me, I never see him coming,  I get the XXX has collided with you msg..then I go down and hes fine. I dont get it. I was told that if the collision is on your screen, you get the msg..so forth. I will never understand the collison modeling here.

Amen to the understanding of the collision model TRALFZ.  I have read many of the collision explanation threads about the issue with what "I" see on my FE versus what the other player see's on their FE and that all makes sense.  What doesn't make sense is why if the server recognizes "I" got hit or hit someone else and gives me damage (or deth) that it can't give damage (or deth) to the toher player ?  It obviously knows that a collision occured between two planes when it sends the message "XXX has collided with you".......well, anyway....I am with you....don't understand the modelling.

Back to the original question from Kaaza.....no, I haven't noticed anything different.  I still die (take damage)....guess I have too good of a connection.  Thankfully they are rare for me.

The server doesn't detect/deal damage from the collisions; that would take too long. All of the damage is done on your computer.
