190A8 MAP calibrated wrong?
« on: November 28, 2009, 01:25:38 PM »
I was in a 190A8 last night, and pulled up my clipboard... I noticed the E6B listd 1.58 as the max boost on WEP, but the actual instrument read 1.63. I turned WEP off and checked that also. E6B said should be 1.32 boost on milpower, but it was pegged perfectly at 1.3 even.

I was passing 10k on auto climb at the time. Took a screenshot, if it's needed.

I think the instrument dial may be mis-calibrated.

At sea level in the A8 I get the values listed in the E6B as with any MAP guage that is correctly calibrated.

E6B says "Emergency Power" -- not "Emergency Take-off" ...

Funny that it does that for sea level then jumps way higher above that.

Normally in other planes the max boost with WEP doesn't change much.

Checked the HurriIIC and Ki-84 with a 60MPH updraft. Where the speed charts show WEP(in the KI-84's case Takeoff Power- think most players use it as WEP also) and Mil Power differ the greatest in top speed, the MAP/Boost gauge show the biggist increase on WEP over Mil Power. The readings are equal at alts where WEP has no effect on speed. The Ki-84 takes a wild ride as far as the MAP gauge goes.

In the case of the 190A8 at 10K, full throttle is in the middle of a preformace hit and WEP is recovering from one that shows at about 8K. A difference from advertised MAP should show at that alt. It is how the gauges reflect what the flight model is doing. Weather it is the correct way to do things is beyond me, but it how things work in AH.

You can use the difference in the advertised and actual MAP readings to determan the effectiveness of Mil Power or WEP at your particular alt. I often do when entering a fight at less than a full head of steam in non-primary ride.

for the WEP, I understand that the settings diminish at certain altitiudes, but why it reads higher is my puzzlement. I get the milpower being lower now that you mention it, but why would the WEP be higher?
