ok so what does xxxx points for damage mean
« on: December 03, 2009, 01:50:58 AM »
ok so I grab a 17 to try out the city run  :airplane: and I get Like 1234678 or something like that for points, so my question is What does that even relate to on score page ? I'm baffled   :headscratch: I only had 2 planes as an adult beverage  incident on takeoff left a drone planted in a tree  :uhoh  so anyway have no clue what to make of this whole points deal.

The points system needs to be redone if people are going to be landing 125673 points in a bomber, that's just silly.  It has no qualitative meaning, it's just a bunch of numbers.  Maybe if points were somehow converted into 'buildings destroyed', that would make more sense to me.  So and So has landed 14.4 buildings destroyed in B17.

Make it simple, do it in perk points earned.
Direct 1 - 1 relationship to what you'd see in the hanger after ending sortie.

So if you'd earned 12.5 perks on that run you'd see "Gameid successfully landed sortie 12.5"

Showing objects destroyed would skew the results against those who killed hard targets, such as hangers, ships, etc.
The perk system already accounts for that in its calculations. So lets use it.

This would not make sense either.  If you destroy 20 town buildings in a B17 vs doing it in a B26, you will score different points.  Not to mention the Eny would affect this as well.  Imagine if your idea was done with fighters, it wouldn't make any sense, it would still just be random numbers always varying based on a multitude of conditions.  The message in the lights should give everybody a clear idea on how much damage you did.  With my idea, if buildings' points were prioritized based on Win The War significance and then converted into some sort of 'Buildings Destroyed', you'd have yourself a system where people would actually be able to see how good a bomber run was and give Wtg's accordingly.

Yes Griz, you will score different points, and yes in that scenario you would get a different amount of perk points.

My point is that the perk point system already balances the difference's between planes flown, objects destroyed, etc.
So why not use it?

Not that I'm unhappy with the system now, especially since the patch adjusted it.

As for fighters thats a moot point. But say we the landing message for fighters was changed to show perks received instead of kills landed.  Your going to get more perks for flying a good sortie in a C.205 than you are a Nik.

And the text buffer would show that. Thats my whole point, the perk system already adjusts for degree of hardness both in the plane flown, and what your killing. And yes, for ENY also, your going to make more points when your outnumbered.

So in order to land a 10 perk sortie you might have to switch to the low numbered side.
Now wouldn't that do things for gameplay?
Not to mention encouraging more people to fly other than the spit 16, P51, and F4u.

Not that I'm advocating changing kills landed, but if you did, how could you get more fair than to use the perk system?

Back on subject, damage done is fine, and inside a tour everyone will know whats a good bomber sortie and what one where they only hit half their targets looks like. You can't go by objects, because 1 hanger or 1 ship is a single object.
HQ building is 1 object.  Where a town it is easy to scroll up 20 or more with a single pass.  So its either Damage inflicted, or perks earned. Hitech chose this way and as the one who asked for it at con, I'm fine with his choice.

Especially after the patch adjusted things.

Agreed really stupid! Objects destroyed kinda like they do in AHspecialevents would look better. And wouldn't be such an eye sore.

Talk about junking up the text buffer. Do I have to see every single bomber sortie that lands 1 bomb on a target and makes it home.
