Unusual Anatomy Question
« on: December 04, 2009, 01:09:10 AM »
Sometimes, when i put ketchup on a burger, for example, i tend to get over-zealous with the portion i add, and upon eating the ketchup, my head/scalp itches.  :headscratch:

I don't have dandruff, or any weird kind of nerve disease, so what causes this?

does any one else experience this?

Just been wondering about this for a couple years, and wanted an answer, thanks!

look at the ingredients of the ketchup you use...

then buy another brand ketchup that uses different additives. also try organic ketchup

that way you can narrow out what it is you're reacting to.

The closest ive had to that as with niacin. foods with too much of it (which thankfully are so rare i dont have to bother looking out for 'em) give me a slight blush all over my body. niacin is supposed to do that in very high doses but my tolerance seems to be much lower than others lol.

Allergical reaction to something in the ketchup, - could even be the tomatoes.
(I cannot eat peppers (paprika)).
Do what Tac said.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

It's called Niacin Flush. I've had it before. You don't need high doses to get it. It's actually good because it is caused by the dilation of capillaries, allowing more blood to flow. But it isn't exactly pleasant IMO.  :)

Yep... Ketchup and other spices or salt and vinegar crisps (chips).  I don't itch.... my scalp sweats.  I don't feel hot or look flushed but if I eat a hearty amount of this stuff my bloody scalp (top of me 'ead) sweats buckets.

Down side is I've gone a little thin on top.  Not a slap head but my crown isn't as full as it once was...dunno if its this though as male baldness is a common thing.  It's just that its in the same place.

Chips and Salsa does the same thing. It's not hot enough unless your scalp sweats.

I would say it was the vinegar in the ketchup which is making you sweat slightly.

It happens amost as soon as the sauce touches my tongue.

It can range from a tingleing sensation, to a full blown itchiness depending on how much i eat at a time, thanks for al the theories, ill try other brands and update later.
