Compulsive Simonov Purchasing Disorder...

Its a serious disorder, gun shows & pawn shops are off limits or only accessible with adult supervision.   Back in September, I bought a 1951 Tula Arsenal Russian and restored it from "bubba" condition and gave it to him as a gift for his 58th birthday. So naturally I had to get one for myself to match, So I bought a 1953 Tula, that was the year my mom was born.

I'm just starting off collecting them, and I am going to purchase one from every country that made them, minus the hard to finds (North Korean, North Vietnam, East German). But, I am going to take a break from SKS and maybe get a Romanian PSL-54.

I have to admit that I think those are the perfect ranch gun that Ruger was trying to make with the Mini 14. Far cheaper, better round (IMO) and nice handy length. I just wish the stock had a couple more inches of pull to it. The length is a bit short there.

I had a pad on my shooter at the bottom, I actually removed it because I liked it better without it. I'm 6' tall with fairly long arms too.

I own two Mosins too. Russian 91/30 (1941) and a Chinese M44 (T-53 1955). I'm actually considering selling them, well, I don't know.

My SKS was an awesome gun, think I picked it up for $75.  Then I bought my Mosin and the little round just couldn't suffice anymore so I sold it before I moved down here.  Love that 7.62x54R round.

nice collection there  ive got about 13 guns & pistols, i have a SKS simular to the 3rd one in the pic, also have my fathers pistol he got during the Korean war when he was stationed in Germany, its a russian made 9mm, you can never own enough firearms  hehe

Be careful with any Chinese firearm.  Metal materials may be inferior and lead to catastrophic failure during firing.  My knowledge is limited, and I'll defer to others, but our DI taught us to leave any weapon with Chinese writing on it right where we found it.

The Metal in Chinese Military firearms is actually quite strong. Most of the questionable Chinese production came with other non-military firearms and IMO some export SKS rifles. A lot of people agree that the Early Chinese Military Surplus SKS rifles are just as good as Russian SKS models.

The range in age of Chinese SKS rifles in the US is from 1956 to the 1993/4. A lot of the first imports were the military surplus rifles, after the export companies shipped all the surplus rifles they started producing them with parts of surplus rifles, then later with all new parts.

Some argue that the later export models were cheaply made with cheap parts, but I have never came across an example that didn't look suitable to fire.

Another fine example of the implied "junkiness" of Chinese Guns would be the Chinese AKM, when they are some of the best AKMs ever imported to the US, they routinely run $800-$1000.

I've owned three Chinese SKS rifles (still have two of them) and own a Chinese Type 56 AKM. Between these, I've gone through at least 5,000 rounds without any untoward behavior. In fact, I've never heard any such talk by anyone who owns one of these weapons. You can bury these things in sand, dig them up a year later and they will shoot. On the other hand, I could count on my AR-15 HBAR to malfunction if I didn't clean it every few hundred rounds.

I've just changed the scope and mount, and it's away getting threaded for a suppressor. Really nice little pack rifle.
