Falling Parts?
« on: December 06, 2009, 03:13:56 PM »

i'm probably gonna get myself flamed for this, but what the hell, right?

last night, i came across some b-17's a little lower than me, and already under attack. i decided to take advantage, and get in there while the gunners were looking elsewhere.

on the 2nd kill, this happened.

so.......although it would've cost me that flight, i started wondering if there was a way to model such large parts falling, to actually damage, or destroy another aircraft that they hit.

on another sorta related note, i also thought it'd be pretty cool if the wreckages of some aircraft that crash landed, ditched, or just plain hit the ground were to remain visible, and as solid objects for a given period of time after they've ended thier flights.

whatcha think?

IIRC only destroyable objects are rendered.  Think lag.  See also: Mass paratroop drops.

Sure would make these sorts of situations much more painful.

Just never gonna let me live that down are ya?

As for the wish, it would be nice, but as in Airflyer's pic my wing never came close to him from my end due to lag, so would it be modeled like collisions or something?

i'm a total tard when it comes to programming, so i've really got no idea. that would be somethign for those of you that understand coading to look at.

i can see possible problems with lag......just as we have in collisions, but also, just as in collisions..and as in the pics i posted.....if we don't get too close, we shouldn't have a problem.

i just think it'd be pretty darned neat.

the part about wreckage on the ground.....i kinda feel the same.

guys will come in shootin the poop out of a gv, hurt or kill it, and lawndart. the gv dudes kinda don't care, as once the aircraft is dead, it's outta the picture.

but............... wouldn't it be cool as all hell, if they had to drive around the burning hulks that used to be aircraft? or if they could use them to hide behind?

In IL-2, only collisions with objects still on the plane are modeled. Anything else, you fly through. I wish that you could fly through bailed pilots and parachutes, rather than losing an engine or a wing.

Just give it a quick burst and that pilot with his parachute will be gone  :old: :bolt:

So when I am hit and killed by falling debris it is only because the pilot is not dead?

no. it is only because you were too close when you shot him....such as in the pics shown here.

i've noticed when some smaller parts hit us, we hear a "clang".

:joystick: I must be doing something wrong, when I run into debris I get all kinds of random damage...oiled, damaged radiator, damaged gun, dead engine, damaged wing.
