How about letting us spawn individual ships?

This would be a good trial for the idea of letting people spawn submarines.  As I recall HiTech saying, the idea for subs was that they could be spawned and then the spawning player could set waypoints for it.  The sub would go on its merry way until it reached its intended areo of operation, where in the spawning player could jump back in and take command for the attack.

My thoughts are to do the same sort of thing with individual destroyers or even cruisers.  The player spawning the ship could go away and come back later, taking command at any point.  They could be of limited duration (dissappearing if the spawning player doesn't assume personal command at least once every so many minutes), with only a certain number allowed for each country.  All the player mannable guns would be there, but only light A/I controlled guns would be enabled (precludes using them as automated mobile flak batteries).  Just a thought, then would seem to be fairly straightforward to implement (of course, I could be wrong about this).

Just a dumb question. What are these subs supposed to be attacking when they make it into the game?

that would be cool,
you could have a limited # of ships at each port and if nobody is using them they sit in the harbor as nice fat targs

I would speculate they could sink a ship.  Also I imagine they would need to surface from time ot time to reacharge batteries.  On the deck they had a gun that could shoot up ground targets and perhaps aircraft.

You could put 4-5 destroyers or crusiers in each port,  maybe even perk them for 40-50 points, use them for sub patrols,  control them like PT boats, maybe even allow the destroyers to lauch 1 LVT with troops, Or the crusier might be able to launch 1 spotter/float plane.  
It would also allow you to use the destroyers to hunt down and kill carriers.

Destroyers would be an excellent choice for a player operated single surface vessel.  There should be the option for another player to join and operate the Gun batteries.

There should also be the option for the player 'sailing' the destroyer to fire the guns and torpedos.  Depth Charges and laying smoke screens would also be a good option for these vessels.

The AA should remain AI operated though.

I Have Been thinking of this Idea for quite some time.  My idea was to give Each Squad two Ships.  This would cut down on havine way to many ships out there and it would promote unified squad attacks.  However their are players that dont want to be in Squads, so each team gets two extra ships for non-squad members.  Spawn points can be from the Teams CV task force or from a friendly Port.  If the squad's ship is sunk and you have no CV taskforce or Port's then it's lost untill recapture of port.
Squad ships can only be manned and controlled by squad members. As the two non-squad ships can only be manned and controlled by non-squad members.  The Guns on the ships should not be auto (these should be manned if you care about your ship)
These ships should be able to launch lvt's, pt's, and any appropriate future vech's. Again only members can launch from a squad ship (this should cut back from some newbie blowing the cover of your long attempt to get a ship behind enemy lines undetected).
I Like the Idea of having your ships stay in the port as fat targets if no member of the squad is playing (maybe in this situation then light auto guns would be good).
As far as icons on ships, maybe a Squad and Country Flag flying from the Mass.
