SASFRAS Test Terrain....Testers?
« on: December 12, 2009, 02:53:40 AM »
This is a project that is being spearheaded by me and JVNotch (BBS Notch) for SASFRAS. Although its far from done, more like version .01, its still come a long way already. This test terrain is for object creation only but the feel of racing is already there. Next comes the eye candy, and pretty scenery using HTC wonderful new editors they have provided us. This is also meant to hopefully stir up some excitement and interest for his event in the upcoming months and year ahead. Anyway I would love to hear from anyone, especially from those flying on low detail. The colors: yellow, orange, and green are any angle, red is knife edge, blue is wings level.

(image does not do it justice, I hate the yellow cone color as well)

WARNING: When air starting the RV-8 pull back on the stick until the nose drops. Any other method will likely result in tail slide all the way to the bottom of the ocean.

My best time after only a few tries was 2:21, if anyone gets time I would be curious to hear their time and thoughts. If you have a technical problem there is a thread for this terrain project in the terrain forum, please post your issue. These are all brand new objects that were only built in the last week or so. Id rather catch issues now than try and pinpoint problem areas on a terrain nearing completion.

I gave it a try last night. Cool idea Strip. By looking at the diagram above, its kinda hard to tell the intended track path. Would be cool if in the later additions to this track you can put the intended flight path on a clipboard map. I like where this idea is going and didn't see any flaws or issues with the terrain. Good job.  :joystick:  :airplane:  :joystick:

I gave it a few passes but didn't try for times. Looking forward to the finished product and possibility to a AH sponsored "air race" like the A.H.X.L.R. (not sure if thats the correct acronym).

Chewie,

This style of racing is already taking place using field objects for air cones. JVNotch and his event, SASFRAS, run every month pretty regularly. My work here is building on his vision of what the event could be. Basically I am giving him the tools to take his event to the next level.

The race map was pretty basic, in the future they will be better quality and viewable in a new O'Club.

I am glad the terrain objects worked good, that is a big concern considering the terrain will have many of them.

Check his event on in the HMS forum, under SASFRAS.....hopefully we can get this done soon and be running them on a SASFRAS specific terrain.

Come on folks!

If you think, your are so so good in the virtual sky...

Give a try and post your film, result  & comments to the terrain maker!

To me this was taking some time until I could made a 1 complete run in time 3:08...Okey, some air-gate passing penalties maybe need to add  :lol

I tried to made a oppisite Knife Edge in red airgates and wings level in others

My critic
Due open sea track, it was to me a very difficult to define altitude sometimes. Any near by islands / land mass would help a lot.

Very challenging and so rewarding when finally finished.  Good job :aok

When this map was originally designed it was intended for only two or three people for testing purposes. Eventually I said the heck with it and let people check out the course. In the end it will be a full fledged terrain with multiple courses interlaced with the terrain. For now I thought it would be fun for people to see what we are working on. Even if its just the course and new objects....

Still, its worth checking out, guaranteed many of you haven't seen this before!
