Arena Settings
« on: December 12, 2009, 04:22:49 AM »
I wish we could download arena settings as a package for offline practice. Whatever the settings are for wind layers and icon ranges and everything else we could download and plug them into an offline practice with a single file somehow and it would make things a lot easier for us.

As in what the settings would be for the next frame of FSO?

So you could go fly the route etc?

Actually I can see the point in this.

OR CM's can just setup the SEA after the snapshot wed night and leave it open for those who want to practice for FSO.
If the CM team is going to consistently use things like Manual Bomb Calibration and airstarts they need to give people a place to practice with those settings.

Thats exactly what got me thinking about this was the bombers talking about calibration problems but practicing with the wind layers also came to mind.

CM's allready can save arena settings and other CM's can load 'em.

There are under Arena Settings CM tools (IIRC)

I guess what you are asking for is to be able to do this offline as well?  Or allow those tables to be downloaded and used by players.

Interesting request.  I could see it being usefull.

Just clarifying that this allready exists for the CM's and would be easy enough to pull off if HTC chooses to.

Probably the easiest way (and less messy) would be to have a button to 'Copy Arena Settings to Offline Play" or something like that.

Offline practice???  That's what I do when I'm designing/building a setup.  I go to offline practice, manually input the arena settings that I'm thinking of using, and then do whatever tests I need.

The settings used are always in the write-up, and never involve more than maybe a dozen changes to standard AH2 values.  I think its a pretty simple issue.

This isnt for someone that does it every day. The idea is that there are a lot of players that dont have time to learn everything about the program but want to get a practice run in before an event. Even brand new players would benefit from this one addition. This would end the fustration for people that dont know it all about arena setups.

I would take advantage of this if it came into being.  +1

Understood...  I suppose I made that post thinking about development time on behalf of HTC compared to the time it takes to learn how to manipulate the arena settings.  I'm an admin guy, meaning all I do is come up with the write-ups and scoring.  The nuts and bolts of how to setup the arena is left to the setup CM's.  So, what I'm trying to say is that its not rocket science, and wouldn't take very long for the lay-person to figure out.  I guess I'd chalk this one up in the "nice-to-have" category, but not a priority, in my opinion--and that's all it is...

That's cause you don't need to worry about it.  So I have to take your opinion with a grain of salt.......   Just saying, not trying to start crap.   :salute

but not a priority, in my opinion--and that's all it is...

And I am now taking bets on how many times Chalenge needs to re-explain what is ever so clear in the original post.  Current odds for twice more is even 1:1

But if you want to bet 5 more times, you've got 2:1 odds.

God forbid anyone actually try and learn the arena settings interface that's not a CM.  There's even a write-up in the Wiki here:  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Arena_Setup_Information
