Blu-ray help
« on: December 12, 2009, 04:09:18 PM »
I just bought a samsung HT-BD2 Blu-Ray player and it lasted about 3 hours before it went into protection mode. I have replaced it in a much more ventilated area and it still shuts down in protection mode straight away. Before I hand this back under waranty and kiss it goodbye for whoever knows how long, does anyone know any quick fixes for this problem. Thanks in advance.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

If you just bought it take it back to where you bought it for an exchange, The store will exchange it for a different one if you've had it for a few hours.

Yeah dump it nothing worse than having a randomly malfunctioning device in your hands after warranty is over.

Take it back.  I bought a cheap samsung DVD player during the holidays about 6 years ago, and it never lasted through a whole movie.  I don't think they know what they're doing when they build those things, and I suspect they're relying on most people trying to use it until the return/exchange/warranty window expires.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Just get a PS3 199.00  the Blu ray player in it works great, you can use the HDMI connection on the PS3 if your TV is compatible and the picture is unbelievable, it blew me away now you can always use the standard audio/video hook up also. The unit does alot of different functions,  you can surf the web on it, do video on demand (rent movies) or buy them, that's always an option.

See if they'll give you a PS3 to not return the whole system.

I'm not sure how Samsung is for Blu-Ray reliability.  I've owned a Panasonic for a year now.  No issues or complaints.  It's awesome actually.  Huge difference in the movies I watch.

Hope you get it sorted out.

You have a Home Theater in a Box system.   The "Protection Mode" is indicating more than likely, an overheating issue.   Give it more ventilation and see if that helps, if not, you have a defective unit.

I went down to JB hifi with a heat problem in mind and they said "No its ya speaker wires" took it home checked all wires, all good, still into protection mode. Year ago (like 10 to 15) I had a sony home theatrewhich did the same thing and a vacuum cleaner over the fan fixed it, not so this time. Its going back, I got a bargain but its crap. Dang
