Suggestion: Aircraft, phase two

HTC,
After this initial set of aircraft are implemented satisfactorily, I would suggest that the next set of aircraft be ground-attack.  Possible candidates would be:

o American: P-47
o British: Typhoon
o German: Ju 87A/D/G or Fw 190F/G
o Italian: they had a light bomber, SR.79(?)
o Japanese: Betty(?)
o Russian: Il-2m/m3

A few alternate ideas though, and realize that I have a soft spot for two engined "heavy fighters" when it comes to ground attack planes:

American: P-47 is very good, can't come up with a better one, unless you go to the A-26 Invader or A-20 Havoc.
British: Typhoon again very good, but how about the Beaufighter?
German: Prefer the 190F of the two, the Stuka is not very survivable even in early war situations. Again like the British, however I would go with a two engine aircraft, the Me-410 Hornisse. Fast, tough, lots of different cannons to choose from, and able to carry bombs internally.
Italian: Here I will admit my total ignorance of any Italian ground attack aircraft.
Japanese: Betty may be very good choice, not really sure. Wasn't there a also a Ki-45 Nick? The "Dragon", that was twin engined and heavily gunned and bombed, that was optimal for this role. Admittedly, my knowledge of Japanese Air to Ground aircraft and knowledge is pretty thin.
Russian: The Sturmie or the flying tank!! Nice.  An alternative would be the Pe-2 wouldn't it? I was under the impression that it was heavily used in ground attack missions, produced in incredible numbers, and much more survivable than the venerable Sturmie.

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

You got the Russian a/c backwards: it was the Il-2 that was produced in record numbers, heavily armed, and heavily armored, The Pe-2 was not near as good an attack a/c.

In all the other categories, I would take either of your picks, tho I think the Nick was a very late war a/c if its the plane I am thinking of.

Actually no, I didn't get them backwards  

The Il-2 Sturmovic was the Russian contemporary of the Stuka.

I was speaking of the Pe-2 Peshka ("Pawn"), which is similar in design and looks to both the Me-110 or the Mosquito.

From what I have read, the Pe-2 was similar to the Ju-88 in that it was an extremely versatile aircraft that performed many different tasks. Including Bomber, Ground attack, Photo Recon, and even Heavy Fighter.

Production of this aircraft was approximately 11,400, however it is not widely known in the US.

Ok last post <G>

Italian Ground Attack: According to the Italian Wings website, the most widely used ground attack aircraft was the Ju-87 Stuka (110 of them delivered to Italy) and others being mostly field conversions of typical Italian fighters namely the Macchis and Fiats.

Japan: Nabbed this off Krod's site.  

Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu (Dragon Slayer) Allied Name - Nick

 

One of the best night fighters available to the Imperial Japanese Army(IJA) in WWII. Also used as a heavy fighter, and in the ground attack and anti-shipping roles. Apparently the most agile twin-engine fighter of the war.

I think I was thinking of a different variant of the Nick, but that is the one I thought it was.

Yes, the Pe-2 info is correct, but it still was not as well used as the Il-2. They made 40,000 of those, most produced plane of WWII (it was NOT the 109, like many say!!). It was so heavily armored, it was referred to as "the flying tank." The Il-2 was a little better off defending itself than the Pe-2, due to its armor, and better maneuverability, they even made a heavy fighter version.

Italians had the Breda Ba65 as ground attack airplane, but it was the worst attack-plane of the whole world!
Heavy, very underpowered, slow, unreliable, it was as good as useless as ground attack plane.
Worster was only the Ba88 (twin engined), wich was fully inserviceable as aircraft: with bombs and guns it could barely take off!
Thus the Regia Aeronautica asked the Germans for some Stukas and used the Fiat G50 (a mediocre fighter) and the Macchi Mc200 (exellent early war fighter!!) as ground attack planes.
But, OTOH, "we" had the Siai Marchetti SM79: a three engined medium bomber, fast and very
reliable, it proved to be a really good bomber.
It became famous as torpedo bomber and in this role caused a lot of problems to the Brits.

if whe ha a fw 190 A can we have a A5 or A7 not a A8 sturm please..
you can remove the outer guns as it was the case for the Fw190 used as fighter.

could you give the option of the GM 1 being installed as an engine ofption.

Rather than the Beaufighter can I suggest the Mosquito instead? Typhoon or Mosquito would be my choices. Heck, we can't even scratch at prcision surface bombing without throwing a Mos in the ring.

Fw 190A-8 doesn't equal to sturmbock, it's a version of A-8 that had the extra armor and 30mms, but not all A-8s had those of course. Hopefully there *is* an option to load the extra armor and the guns in AH.

I know I mentioned this in response to another thread somewhere, but I think the P-40 should be modeled, arted   and introduced as soon as possible. It's like half an RPS all by itself (it slices dices grates peels removes all types of pet hair has a lemony fresh scent...).

It'd be nice to have it arted in early USAAF, late USAAF (Tuskeegee Airmen), RAF and VVS markings too. Oh, all right, AVG markings too, if you must....
