So what's HTC's inclusion criteria? They added the Tempest and I have not seen one v1 buzz bomb for it to shoot down. That plane has no use except for ho's. Try to use it against gv's which was its primary function and see how much grumbling goes on. Add the Yak3 great fighter plane. Faster and more maneuverable than the supermarine spitfire.

He's talking about, specifically, the Yak 3P model, not the Yak 3 itself.

That plane is one of the better overall fighters in the game and probably the best boom and zoomer....

Why would you care? GV's are there to bomb. So bomb them.

I can't imagine it was faster or significantly more maneuverable than the Spitfire MK XIV... that said it would likely be a better fighter.

            Maximum Speed: 407 mph
            Ceiling: 35,105 ft.
            Range: 559 miles

Spitfire MK VA

  Performance:
            Maximum Speed: 369 mph
            Ceiling: 36,500 ft.
            Range: 1,135 miles

Yak 3 was a design derivation of the Yak 1M ( a Yak1 with latest power plant, shorter wing and lighter construction)
Yak7  (series..there were several of them) was a design based upon a trainer developed to train pilots for the Yak1
Yak9  (series) was a design derivation of the Yak7D (Di) ( a Yak 7 with slightly shorter wings and latest power plant)
Yak9T had a longer nose (cockpit moved back)for the bigger cannon which was retained on the Yak9M ( It was a Yak9D in a Yak9T body) and the Yak9U (to house the bigger V107 engine)

Awesome you compared a 1941/2 version of the Spitfire to a 1944/45 version of the Yak :aok
The Yak 1 was the best fighter in the VVS at the opening of Operation Barbarossa, and the Yak 7 was developed from a trainer version as Tilt said... eventually evolved into the Yak 9.

how did the yaks compare to migs? what did the pilots prefer to fly if they had flown both?

The Yak-1 was really the only really good fighter the Soviet Union had at the outbreak of the war. The MiG-3 pretty much sucked; it's often cited as the exception that makes the well repeated rule, 'if it looks right it is right'.

It would be my main ride. Yak-9U is in my top three as it is. The plane is in the other game, and under 15,600 feet it is very dominant. Nothing can climb with it and I think the acceleration is tops at those lower alts. It gives 190s and 38s fits. I think it is really (in that game) most effective BnZ and just use the maneuverability as a defensive/ escape/ rtb asset---along with the acceleration. So---YES!!

+1.  Very tough opponents if flown by someone who knows what they're doing.

Probably the only EAC I think twice about engaging depending on the situation.
