Selectable Troop Targets

I did a search on Commando Raids, but I think this idea might be a bit different.

The idea is that when loading up troops in a C-47, M3 or LVT - you give the guys their target. Selectable targets are: -

   1. Map Room: This is what we have now. Capturing the Map Room takes the field.
   2. Hanger: The troops leg it to the nearest Field and if ten arrive, then one of the Hangers is taken down. Of course if any Ack is up then they will fail.
   3. Shore Gun: If ten troops arrive at a Shore Gun then its taken out.

The idea is that some guys might like to travel a way in an M3 to take out the shore guns prior to a big landing - effectively a commando raid.

I'm guessing it won't need too much extra programming as the troops behave exactly the same, just their targets are different.
Keeps it simple (I think).

Had a similar idea.  I do think it would be cool for there to be something else for the poor troops to do.
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

Absolutely, new skins and perhaps an animation of setting charges and hightailing it out of there should be part of the package.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but skinning programs for the troops could also be a good idea, think: The Dirty Dozen

That's a cool list. How about: -

/.attack ambush

You release your troops and they dig in where they are. Any unwary enemy GVs or running troops getting too close would be attacked. Troops stay on station for 10 mins or until they're killed (bombs, machine gunning or HE shells). That'll give the mud-thumpers something extra to do (air-ground support). Also, if released in a town or near a map room the troops would protect it.

They'd look a lot better if they did look like real troops though - not the stiff-armed pilots (please!). At the simplest I figure you'd only need 2 extra models, a soldier running and a soldier prone (the latter for my ambush idea).

No perks for taking out soldiers though.

For the sake of keeping it simple, they should probably only do what they already do.  Run in and blow something up.  Would be nice if there was a ranged attack for field guns and auto guns. 

Perhaps a few more manned gun positions on the field for defense.  Could be alot like the old "Beach Head" game from the early 80's.
