Auto rear gunners
« on: December 23, 2009, 09:58:56 PM »
I dont think it would be a bad addition if rear gunners on planes such as the IL2, 110, SBD, TBM, etc... be made to auto fire like the ack on airbases.  Not as accurate as a human controlled gunner could fire, but atleast something that has a chance of hitting if the bogey hangs around long enough.
There is really no purpose to gun for someone score wise, and its not really feasable to ask for a gunner every time you take off.  Human manpower is limited.  I dont believe you should need 2 human players to take full use of an airplane.  Strategic level bombers I can understand having to gun yourself...but single or dual engined attack planes I think should have this option.

all these planes except for the il2 (used mainly as tank killers ) are used as fighters and some are really good at killing.  having auto gun would make them more effective figher hunters.  I would say no. and actually all the level buffs are the one's that need auto gunners.  but then again, i think 999 already has them.  he just dont wanna share the code  :uhoh J/k.

Yes. There is already a virtual man sitting in the back seat, what is he doing? Sleeping? I'd like to think not. Let's have him fire his damn gun so I don't have to climb back and forth from my pilot's seat trying to bomb/strafe takes while trying to pop a bandit on my six.

Here's a compromise for those that don't want it. Give them an option to turn it off.

No. I don't care if it's a pea-shooter, or 50cal. No auto rear gunnery. Too much "what can make the game easier for me?" stuff.

Speaking from WB experience, auto gunners can be either "useless" or "deadly", no intermediate states. I definitely dont want neither 1st in my plane nor 2nd in enemies.

Get a gunner.

Nice idea for those planes with a feeble rear gunner.
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

What, import Otto Der Meister-Gunner from Woebirds? No way. Na. No. Not ever. Unless we introduce the Boulton Paul Defiant turret-fighter, in which case yes please, then we Brits will retire our Spitfires and Hurricanes in favour of the Four-Gun Beast and become masters of the AH sky.

Never!

Otto singlehandedly was the source of more gnashing of teeth, tearing out of hair, wailing and moaning to the "Gods" than almost any other single feature.

Hitech has built "Much" better this time.

You can get someone to join you in flight, can leave again in flight.
You can man the guns yourself while you have a gunner in a drone.

But we do NOT need or want Otto.

Otto is for the lazy and incompetent.
