My goodness, that's a real downer in more than two senses. I'm definitely keeping you in mind and taking a few extra minutes off my "vacation" to keep your grandmother lifted up.

My mom and grandmother are going to visit now.  My dad and I can't muster enough to go see her.  There's no way I can go down there and see her suffer and yell in pain.  I'll give you an update as soon as I can.

If all this isn't enough, I have two more prayer requests that are near to me.

One of the guys I've duck hunted with all of my life (was the person to loan me my first gun and stood behind me to kill my first duck) has Parkinson's and Alzheimers.  He's 65 (I think) and his wife has decided to put him in a Nursing Home, all of the kids are against it.  Right now he's in the hospital, trying to get his medications right as to where he can actually be himself for a little.  It's a sad story that's had me in tears.  His wife doesn't want to take care of him and all she does is scold him on every little thing he does.  He even made the comment "she doesn't love me anymore."  The doctors say he will have more bad days than good.  The other night he fell and hit his head.  Last night he fell again.  I'm not certain on all of his details either.  Being 17 years old my parents tell me enough to know what's going on but not everything.  If you would please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Also, my best friend I've ever had and ever will have has a 14-year-old mentally retarded brother.  Their parents are divorced and so on.  Last night he was at his dad's house outside.  Of course, it was cold out and there was a fire built outside.  Apparently, the story I was just told by my friend, is that the father wasn't paying attention to his son or wasn't keeping up with him and he fell in the fire.  He burned half of his face.  If that wasn't bad enough, they just took him to the hospital this morning instead of last night when it happened.  If you would please keep Taht family in your prayers, too.

It seems like this Holiday Season I've asked for more prayers than I have anything.  Hopefully things will start to get better in 2010.

Mom came home and gave us an update.  "Big Mama's" arm is swollen to the point that her hand is about to burst.  She has gained about 8 pounds in fluids since last night.  Things are not looking good

The past few weeks have not been good at all.  About 2 weeks ago my 87-year-old great grandmother was diagnosed with cancer.  I'm not certain on where exactly it is, but it's not looking good.  Added to that, last night she fell and broke her hip and is in the hospital now.  And if those two things weren't bad enough, she also has pneumonia and her cancer has spread to her lymph nodes.  So far this Christmas hasn't been going well for her, and I'm afraid she will be spending her last Christmas in a hospital bed.  So, all I'm asking is to add her to your prayer list.

I type with tear-filled eyes.  They just called my parents to the hospital.  Big Mama ain't gonna make it through the night.  87 years is a long life well lived.  At least she won't have to suffer anymore and will be in a better place.  Tonight, Helen Pleasant goes home with her husband.

I come with surprising news.  Some how she was able to make it through the night.  My parents were called in again this morning for the decision of cutting off her medication and taking her off the machines. "Big Mama" was prepared to go and had already made the statement "I wanna go home with 'Big Daddy.'"  Her daughter, my grandmother, just couldn't part with her and kept her on the meds.  The only thing keeping her alive basically is her Blood Pressure medicine.  From my understanding the morphine lowers her BP.  Her BP was already low, so she needs the BP medicine to take the morphine to keep her comfortable.  The only problem is they can only give her the medicine til about 9 tomorrow night.  Any more and her veins will burst.  Hell, IDK.  I'm no doctor or pharmacist or whatever so I really don't know how it all works.  All I know is once she's off the meds she'll be gone.

I want to thank everyone so much for your prayers.  It means a lot to me knowing that there are still good people left in this world.
