Question regarding Logitech game pad

I seem to have stumbled upon an issue regarding trying to map keys on a Logitech G13 game pad.  My techno savy is very limited.  So here goes....I installed the software cd that accompanied the game pad......the game pad was plugged into the USB port prior to the software installation as per the instructions.  The game pad came to life  .  Next I fired up AH and went to map my controller...my joystick and mouse are listed but not the Logitech game pad.  Okay, no sweat I think, Ill map my keyboard functions to the game pad.  Following the instructions I am able to assign the corresponding keyboard key to the various game pad keys.  Once again Im pumped  .  So I go to a far and away field and go to test the key mapping on the game pad.  NO DICE  .

So maybe the game pad just isnt supported? if so no biggie, ill take it back and upgrade with a new head set or something else.  But before I send it out to pasture I thought i'd ask if anyone else is using gamepads seperate and aside from their joysticks? If so, am I just over looking the obvious?  Any help is greatly appreciated in advance

In AH, in options, controls, map controllers, scrollbar at the top lists whatever controllers are seen.

ie if you have a joystick it will show MS Sidewinder Joystick, mouse should also be listed.
Does it list your gamepad?

If it doesn't, go into windows control panel, make sure its calibrated in Windows first.
Ie not just "come to life" but is seen and recognised (and calibrated) in windows.

Once thats done, then come back and try it in AH again.

If that doesn't do it, then I'm afraid its tech support, or give up and go buy a cheap stick.

Saitek ST-290's have everything you need to fly well. 3 axis including rudder, throttle, hat switch, and a few buttons.

Thanks for the reply Ghost.  I do have a stick, I purchased the game pad to map my keyboard functions to the game pad.  All my buttons are used up on my Saitek.  That is the problem AH is not recognizing the game pad and it is not listed in the scroll bar.  I will try the windows calibration.  Thanks for the advice.

No go Ghost.....it's not even being recognized in windows under the control panel.....   anywho, guess ill take it back and flame it, grab another toy for the pc

I don't know anything specific about the game pad itself, but with everything else I've ever seen, this is a sure fire way to mess up a USB device so that it doesn't work right.  In every other instance of every other USB device that required specific drivers I've ever installed (and I've installed a lot), the drivers need to be installed BEFORE the device is ever connected.    Are you sure you didn't misread the directions?

Isn't a gamepad just a keyboard extension?  I don't think it will show up in AH.  You use the Logitech software to tell the gamepad what characters to output when its keys are pressed.  Someone correct this if I am way off base.

Ghastly, I went back and checked the instructions and I had in fact set it up as required.  But I also tried it as you stated with the same result.  But then again there is no "written instructions" just three pictures that state step 1....step 2....step 3 lol.  633 you are correct and the gamepad does in fact allow the mapping of the key board keys.  When I press the corresponding game pad key It shows me what key board key I mapped.  That part is working fine, It just doesn't parlay over to the game itself.  None of the mapped keys to the game pad render any kind of a result in the game.  I just figured it either isnt supported by the game, or I got a bad one.  Either way, think Im gonna take it back and put the $80 towards a set of rudder pedals    thanks for the help gents

Wish I'd a read this before I went out and bought the exact same gamepad! Anyway, what was the final outcome?

Did you ever test it with Notepad? I know my Saitek X52 allows Keyboard mappings. Whenever I press the button I just mapped, the corresponding output is presented in Notepad (if the output contains letters only). Try it out, there's a chance you have a faulty game-pad.

you wanted to buy a gimmicky mini wannabe keyboard while you still don't have a good rudder setup?

If you really want a half keyboard then just bind all the keys aeound your left hand home keys to your most used commands.
