The ATM system of my bank is down today- no big deal, it happens. But for some reason, the Electronic Teller at the bank itself does still work (I know, I can't figure it out either). So while I'm at the bank grabbing a hundred bucks or so to get me through the weekend (in case the ATMs stay down), I overhear the guys behind me in the line (who oddly enough are the only ones behind me, the other 50+ people are all waiting in line to see the tellers. Go figure.) commenting on how it must be some kind of conspiracy and that the bank is going to lose everyones money over the holiday weekend, ruining us all (they are saying thise SERIOUSLY, not joking) and that the government must be behind it somehow.
To which I respond that the government actually found a way to push Y2K back ten years (since its now 2010 on the other side of the world) and, now that we all think we're past Y2K and safe until 2012, they're gonna make their move while noone is expecting it.
Which got one of the two guys to start calling everyone he could think of on his cell phone while I finished up my transaction (probably to see if 'they' had knocked out the satellites yet) and made the other one just stare at me as though I had just revealed some profound truth to him. They were whispering hurriedly and very quietly as I left.
God, how I hate stupid people. Unfortunately, they seem to be in the majority these days.
