New event series being launched: This Day in WWII
« on: January 03, 2010, 05:59:23 PM »

ahevents.org page for the event:  http://ahevents.org/this-day-in-wwii-category/this-day-in-wwii.html

We are creating a new series of events called "This Day in WWII".  Each month, on the anniversary of a major battle in WWII, we will run a themed event based on that battle.

All players are welcome, and no preparation is needed.  These events have the theme of the battle, but they are not realistic recreations and do not require familiarity with any rules prior to joining us for the fun.

We plan to start with January 25, 1945, the date of the conclusion of the Battle of the Bulge.

It's on a weekday, so it's unfortunately hard to pick anything except evening Eastern time.

10 pm is about the best we can do, I think.  Earlier, and west coasters are not back from work yet.

Snapshots and FSO's have already optimized weekday times to come up with late Eastern working best for overall participation.

Like I said on the other thread,

brooke and the CM team, its an honor to see something like this gone through with, and I am honored even more if the pearl harbor event is one of the reasons why there was enough support to do this.  :salute

Yep, it was your Pearl Harbor event Subway, along with the past Doolittle event that players put on, that contributed to these anniversary events getting started.

Good work, Subway, and thank you.  :salute  :aok

Sounds like a great idea to people like myself, who don't know much about single events in wartime history. For us Europeans this would be a great opportunity to learn what has happened in our "neighborhood" and also far far away from here in the Pacific.

I guess I'd still skip this opportunity, waking up early enough to log into the game before 5 AM could cause serious wife ack issues, and I'm not sure these events would stop before having to go to work.

Great idea, hope someone would duplicate it into European timing.  :aok

Hmm.  That is actually a very interesting idea.

There is no rule that says we can't run it more than once in the same day.

I think that we should do that!  :aok

I'm guessing aiming for starting somewhere 7-8 pm UK time would work best for Europeans?
