Host connection lost on start up
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:55:48 PM »
I just installed the new version after taking a long time away from the game.

I can load up the game fine, but when I pick an arena in the online area, after a very long pause (more than 3 minutes), the arena opens and I'm in the tower, but I instantly get a "host connection lost" message and exit to the desktop. I've tried several different arenas, and am getting normal 100ms pings from all arenas from the lobby.

Also if I click "practice offline" I get the same very long pause (btw during which task manager reports Aces High as not responding). After a few minutes if left alone, the arena finally loads. I can go to the hanger but plane selection takes a long time, and if I click a runway to take off from I get another very long pause, well over a minute or 2, then it finally loads.

Once in the air I'm getting 20-30+ fps pretty solid, and I don't seem to have any other problems except for these very long delays. I suspect thats what is also causing my disconnects from the online arenas. I've also tried using Alacrity to run AH which is what I used to do to get max performance on my laptop, but it does the same thing.

Any ideas?

It sounds like you are low on resources. How much ram on what kind of system? Maybe run the Dxdiag and post the first third here.

2 GB of ram on a Core Duo 1.8 GHz in this laptop. I know its not much but it has ran this game fine in the past. Also like I said I tried with Alacrity PC which should shut down all other processes (has worked well for me in the past).

Is there something new in the last year or so of updates that requires a lot more resources?

Ahh got it working. Apparently there was a new driver for my video card and that seemed to solve the issue. Now I'm finally back flying in the arenas, look out!
