As I've been reading the responses to the threads titled "tank to tank engagement ranges" and "the next tank has to be a Sherman...here is why", it became apparent to me that it is extremely difficult to simulate a game environment with W.W.II tanks that is a realistic depiction of what the actual ground battles were like. Also, by accident or design, there has been a noticeable absence of HighTech Creations responding in these threads which has been somewhat disappointing. I realize that they are busy writing code, which is a good thing, but with the introduction of a ground element and W.W.II vehicles to their game I'm sure we're all curious as to how they propose overcoming the graphics limitations, in order to give the player some of the realism that we have been discussing. Currently, the ground tank mode is nothing more than a complete arcade style fabrication, where one sits at 3,000 to 4,000 yards and slugs it out like "quaketanks". This isn't meant to be a criticism of HTC, as I do thoroughly enjoy and admire what they have accomplished, but rather an honest curiosity as to how they are intending to approach this dilemma as they move forward with coding and altering arena setups.
Also, it got me thinking about W.W.II On-line. Here's an environment that professes to be a complete W.W.II world of planes, tanks and grunts. I wonder how they are going to deal with this same issue. I thought I would go over to their BBS forums and post a few messages to "MO" and "Hatch", or whoever is running that show, to see their ideas on balancing the realism factor against playability and hardware limitations.
I'll drop back here from time to time and let you guys know what's happening. Until then, I don't see much point in continuing to post, talking to ourselves over and over, re-hashing material about realism with the current environment.

Badger
