Still flying fast on one wing
« on: January 07, 2010, 09:53:27 AM »
OK...

Today i was flying in a LA-5.
And i was hunting down a one winged LA-7. The thing is that, when the LA-7 lost hes wing i was about 1.5K behind him.
And i was in the LA-5 with the WEP on. Still i didn't get closer to the LA-7. Instead he flew faster then me, and i ended up like 4.0K behind him.
I don't think that is right. I got that on film, and I'm gonna post it.
He should fly slower doe to the damage.

Most likely half a wing, still flyable and less drag.

I know, but i still think its not right. You getting more speed, and i think that the more airpressure you get, the wing should fall off.

I too have chased down one-winged LA7's with an exceeding amount of difficulty. I believe that flight model may need looking at.

la-7's are VERY easy to fly with one wing and have to remember the la-5 is slower than a la7

Post the film.   But the La7 will easily outpace the La5FN.   Negative on the "slower".

i think the point he is trying to make is, planes with 1/2 wings shouldn't be able to fly at full speed. I personally think they shouldn't be able to fly at all, even thou I love when I can land my K4 or 190 with 3 well earned kill after taking damage like that...

Some planes in the game need a bunch of rudder input after losing part of a wing to offset roll.  These in general slow noticeably due to the increased drag from the rudder.

Other planes in the game only require a small amount of aileron input after losing part of a wing.  These planes hardly slow down if at all and can be placed on auto-pilot while missing wing parts.

I don't know where the La7 fits but I suspect it's in the second group.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
