Animated graphic size limit
« on: January 08, 2010, 08:37:29 AM »
Skuzzy... how about imposing one on the BBS?

I know my old laptop isn't very new or fast but it's plenty good for browsing the Internet, that is, until I hit the AH BBS an someone's posted a large animated graphic in a post (waytin's in before the lock for example).  Then my poor machine grinds to a halt.  I'm guessing people on dial-up generally aren't too pleased either.

There's a limit as to how much text you can post.  Why not a limit on graphic size?

I just used you as an example.  There are others.  The animated nook graphic that shows up in every B-29 thread is another.

Explorer: Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Multimedia, uncheck "Play Animations in Webpages"
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

If hes on 56KB wouldn't that mean it should take him 2 seconds to load it?

In this case, KB means kilobit, with an actual max transfer rate of about 40-50 kbit/s depending on circumstances.

At 40kbit effective data rate, a 100kbyte file would take ~20 seconds to load.
