as for the hackrdudes? i somehow suspect they'll be seeing some black suv's with nice men in suits pulling up in front of their homse pretty soon.

I highly doubt that. This was the same person that has been doing it for years. If they haven't caught him by now then it probably wont happen because of this event.

Hitech

I rarely post on these boards but I do read and follow them. I took over the BOPS from Falc effective in August of 09 and feel as Diver's overall squadron leader to respond to this post. I have taken the time to read all the posts and speak to Diver. Unfortunately I did call the AH offices but it was to late on Friday and I will make a serious effort to speak with Mr. Addinks on monday. I have a few comments to make.

1. Diver is an exceptional person and player. He has dealt with personal issues and professional ones that would make a lessor man snap. He has faced medical issues in his family and employment issues...like a lot of us have in this economy and still maintained a positive attitude and been a loyal wingman and great friend. Whether it was hurricanes, a child with serious medical issues, being out of work he has kept his chin up. But every man has his limit. Diver loves this game and has been a loyal player for years. His loss will be sorely felt unless we can get this situation resolved.

2. Hitech, bottom line its your company and your product and you run it as you see fit. I am a private business owner myself and I understand the pride one takes in his product, and how pissed off it made me when someone degrades my product in any way. You write the rules and you enforce the rules, its your ship and you run it. I am asking you, as Diver's CO for his reinstatement to the game. I ask for one reason only. According to the reports I have your last statement as "you are not the kind of customer we want". Sir with all due respect you are dead wrong on this part. Diver after all these years still takes the time and has the patience to mentor new players in this game. He does not write them off as noobies and move on. He takes the time to maximize the enjoyment they can get from the game. He teaches, he leads, and he loves this game. He is exactly the type of player you want IN THE GAME.

3. What I propose is this. Put him on probation, ban him permanently from the boards, and I will take personal responsibility for his conduct in the game at the peril of my own membership. But please reconsider this decision Sir. The diver that made the serious errors in judgement in posting what he did is not the diver you see in the game 99.9% of the time. I again state catagorically that will put my own neck in the noose in order for you to reconsider this banishment.

Diver is one of my favorite squaddies & players.  He is my friend.  He made a mistake.  He doesn't visit these boards & doesn't really know how it works with our community & our interaction with HTC here.  He called to talk to HT last night to apologize & was totally blown off.  I really hope tempers calm down & he will be allowed to return to the game.  He is not the one who started this mess & I know how much he loves the game.  He is a nightly player, and by reading these posts, one can tell what a great guy he is.  This game is important to him & that is why he took such a strong stance on the whole hacking thing.  It had him really fired up like the rest of us.  I hope HTC will let him back in the game & cooler heads will prevail.  It's very rare that a player with a better in-game attitude will be found.  The dude screwed up by voicing his opinion.  There are far worse things in life that someone can do.  Taking your temper out on a long time loyal customer and banishing them is one of them.  It was the wrong subject & timing for Diver to make this mistake on, but good God, the guy is human.  Don't take away something that obviously means so much to him (he plays nightly for hours) over this stupid crap.  We are all pissed that someone invaded our playground & screwed it up.  Don't take it out on the wrong person who, right or wrong, voiced his opinion on the matter.  My god, cut the dude a little slack for caring about the game.  This situation is stupid.  That is my opinion and yes I'm gonna voice it.  If I get banned for it too, than I accept that.  I fought many times for the rights of this country and I dang sure am gonna exercise em.  Diver has helped players and this game a thousand times more than a couple of stupid posts could ever hurt it.  Ban him from the boards, fine, but give the man his passion back.  Stop punishing the wrong person.  He has already called to apologize & is going to again on Monday.  Please accept it.  This post has not been an attack on HTC.  I speak to everyone man to man, I don't care who you are.  Tempers got out of hand, but the moment is over.  He knows he was wrong and has tried to apologize.  Please let him back into the game.  I personally know how much it means to him.

Please HT.  Punish the hackers, not the long time loyal player & customer.  Have a heart & let Diver back in the game.

I agree. A long time ago I  meet Diver in the game and he seemed like he seemed a nice guy. Then I flew with him a few times and he proved me right. He is exactly the type of player you want in the game. If he is banned from the game itself, then, with all due respect, HT has made a very poor decision.

Just my 2 cents. <S>

Wt666 CO of the Birds of Prey

On one hand I admire your dedication to your squadmate, Wt666, but I don't agree with all of your post.
Come next month, I will have been laid off for a year.  Last February and March, my mom was diagnosed with cancer, had part of her left lung removed, had several other major surgeries with a two week period, and in November it was discovered that the cancer has metastized all over and there is no treatment available due to the rare type of cancer she has.  So we put her on hospice and I am watching her die every day and there is nothing we can do about it beyond keeping her comfortable as possible.
Since September, my son has had a dislocated elbow, an ulcerated cornea, and over Thanksgiving he was in the hospital with abcesses to his legs that no one can explain why they occurred.  Yeah, worst year of his 17 year life.
Since last February, I've been laid off, am dealing with the impending loss of my mother, have seen my son suffer from various injuries and ailments, and while I am dealing with that, I've been struggling to keep the lights and heat on and food in the house.
Having laid out my own problems and struggles, I can still say I think your squadmate was dead wrong.
I remember seeing his name in the arenas, but can't recall if we spoke or not.  Regardless of how nice he is in the arenas, he came on here and went off on hitech and got what he deserved.  Having met hitech in person and spoke with him several times on the phone, my opinion is that hitech is an extremely reasonable person.
You say your friend did in fact call HTC and talk to hitech?
If so, and admittedly not being privy to the actual conversation, I'd have to say that he wasn't repentant or had a hostile attitude or hitech would have reinstated him.
I can't imagine myself going off on any of the HTC staff and expecting to just get off with no repercussions.
Just from reading his posts, he was taunting hitech and company to do something......well, they did.  It's not up to you to tell them how super a guy he is, it's up to him to demonstrate that he IS the type customer they want in the game.
You say he's a grown man.....he dug this hole for himself, he needs to dig himself out and make amends.  If he's the type guy you have described him as being, he shouldn't find it that hard to do......reading his posts, you might have misjudged your squadmate's character.
My point is, you can't use personal hardships as an excuse.  I know a lot of people going through really rough times right now, and none of them would use their own problems as a crutch and think they could tweak HTC's nose and get away with it.
Just my thoughts...........

what would you, and others that've said this have done in ht's shoes?

the dude pretty much came in here daring him to ban him. the warnings were all in the very first post.

while he might be a nice guy, he got just what he deserved in this instance.

if he mans up, and calls them, i'm sure he'll get back in the game.

Both.

in that instance, i would imagine, that ht pretty much HAD to do something extreme, considering that the warnings were in place.
i'm sure that a phone call when all is calmer will at very least get the dude back in the game.

Not trying to judge or condemn the guy (his own posts did a good enough job of that).

But what he did was the equivalent to walking into someone's home and calling his mom an obscene name, poking him in the eye, spitting in his face, and then flipping him the bird..........yeah, he'd get kicked out of their home if he did that.
And getting banned for what he did seems reasonable.
Why let him play the game and enjoy himself after his very public display of disrespect towards hitech and HTC?  That makes no sense whatsoever, folks.......
Regardless, it's between him and hitech now, and if he's as good a guy as you say he is, he'll see the error of his ways and repent and apologize.
Now.......I'm done here......just hope I haven't crossed any lines myself..... :bolt:

Like HiTech said, they do have the legal route they can take if they choose to.  There is a major MMO company (not Blizzard) that sued a player that was repeatedly banned from the game for hacking.  After repeated bannings, the developers went to court and got a restraining order against the hacker but the hacker being an idiot just created a new account and did it again.  He was caught and banned again but since this time he broke the restraining order against him, the developers sued the player.  Now the player is going to be spending the most of his adult life paying off the lawsuit.

So there is legal recourse that ban be taken in cases like these.

wt666: If the topic were any other then this one I would consider it if he were to apologize. But you really do not understand how seriously I take this subject. I had already cut some slack by allowing him to continue after his first topic that I locked.

He then came back calling me names after I had spent the time to outline the reasons behind my policies along with calling me a lire  by saying I stated that AH could not be hacked.

In my experience guys who display this type of behavior almost always repeat it as demonstrated by his behavior of repeating himself in this thread what he had said before in a topic I locked.

Also wt666 it is really not a good idea making request like yours in public, it really does make it much more difficult for all parties involved to deal with.

I request all involved to please drop the discussion of diver, it really is nice to speak about a guy who can not post and defend himself.

He did apologize to you on the phone & I know you have emails in your in-box.  Ban him from the boards, but please let him back in the game.  If you've read this thread, you know now how highly people think of him & that he is an asset to the game.  Maybe not from the admin's POV, but from the players'.  I know what this game and his squaddies mean to him.  Please let him back in the game.  In all these years you have never had one problem from him.  He is freely & publicly admitting how wrong he was & is trying his damndest to get with you to apologize.  It's up to you of course, but I really hope you will read his apology(ies) and let him back in where he belongs.
