Twice last night I was flying along completely free of any observable threat and suddenly hear a single PING, quick hit sprite inside my cockpit and out goes my oil and the propeller immediately seizes.
The first time, I was goes past an airfield at about 1 thousand feet. I just assumed it was a lucky shot from a field gun or auto ack. It seemed an unlikely shot, but hey, stranger things have happened.
About an hour later, I was flying escort for a set of buffs. There were two cons in the area, one of which was attacking the buffs, and the other was somewhat lower and of no threat. Again, flying along, hear a single PING and same thing -- oil on the windscreen and the propeller immediately seized. I assumed lucky shot again, but as I look around, there was no one even remotely close to have fired the shot. The field was roughly 12K below and could not have hit me with auto ack or manned gun. As I am not a big fan of coincidence, I logged off to watch the film and figure out where or how I was hit.
I have watched the film (repeatedly) from all perspectives. I tried to watch from all views and from each individual plane recorded. I absolutely cannot find where the 'miracle shot' came from. So, this has me wondering if there is something about the P47m the 'breaks' under certain conditions, or maybe there is some type of damage bug for which I was a victim of circumstance.
I did cut an except of the film surrounding the point of damage; but, I have no idea how to post or attach it here. If anyone can help either direct me how to post the film, or has any idea's as to the 'damage bug', I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
