Trak ir issues
« on: January 08, 2010, 03:11:44 PM »
Hi All I have been using Track Ir for  manyyears with other sims.
I Am using track ir here in AH and its not performing the way in witch im used to.
I keep losing site of opponents and as we all know lose site lose the fight.
I consider my self an expert in track ir profiles, and have made many over the years in many of the other combat fight sims I fly but Im at a loss here.
Iit me or is there some kind of relation ship between the way AH deals with trak ir.
I do know about adjusting or turning off "true view" ect but that's not the issue.
The issue is in a hot and heavy dog fight it just falls apart...  I  lose site of bandits when I look up.
This has never been an issue for me  when using Tir in other sims. The only time I have seen this kind of problem is when I'm fighting against a lagger. if there is lag the tir snags could this be lag related?
or if the usb is not pluged into a powered usb port i have seen this issue as well but I solved that years ago.
is there some magic AH track Ir setting some of you gurus could turn me on to. I really need to be brought up to speed here. Nothing worse than losing the advantage because of equipment frailer.

How do you mean that you lose sight of them exactly?  When you look up, what does the view do?

Do the other sims limit your "head" movement or can you tilt your head past 90 degrees straight up?  I know my real-life head can't bend backwards until I can see behind me unless I also look to one side or the other.
My Current Rig:
GigaByte GA-X99-UD4 Mobo w/ 16Gb RAM
Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit
NVidia GTX 970 4Gb ACX 2.0
Track IR, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals

Using the headclip or the track clip? If your views are snagging, or freaking out (whipping between lots of views without you moving your head) you may have an errant light source affecting your trackir. Or, if you are using the track clip, your track ir is losing visibility on the clip - which can be caused by the clip sliding down your headset etc (mine was doing this, tape fixed it).

it just snags  it dosent whip around as it would from a light source I know what you mean about that that's not the issue

yes... but its happening mostly when looking up 75deg. I  have to reset my center key to get vis on bandit.. ie look forward/ hit center view/ then i can look up at 75deg and those precious seconds count as you all know. In a vertical rolling scissors its really important.

How do you mean that you lose sight of them exactly?  When you look up, what does the view do?
it locks at about 30deg /then I need to recenter view /then I can look up again.

Thanks guys
I'm going to look into the  powered usb supplie just to be sur I thought there might be a relationship with how AH deals with track ir.

Not as far as I'm aware Raven, the only time I've had mine snagging was when it was losing track of the clip/headclip. I just moved it so it was more obvious, moved the camera so it had a clearer view, and taped the clip into position to stop it moving again.

Do you have anything that might be blocking one of your reflective strips or ir lights as the case may be.  Sometimes when something gets in front of one of my leds the view freezes like that.  Otherwise, maybe you need to change the speed or the smoothing on your profile.  I'm just kind of guessing here right now.  I haven't had that particular problem.  Does it snag or freeze when you're looking any other direction?

no blocking.  I have full reflection off my  strips in all ranges of motion and head movement my smoothing and profiles are well in hand this only happens in AH and in a close combat dog fight sporadically I'm thinking its lag or a power issue it.
could be that AH is demanding more from my system  and overpowering tie I might try to up the exe priority of Tir and see if that helps. Ill report thanks for helping

No problem man.  Consider it payback for letting me use your 109 k4 skins.  I get them all shot up frequently though.  Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.  That's a strange issue you've got going on.  If you don't have a powered hub I'd get one for sure.

That might be an issue. How strong a box do you have? I've never used TrakIR but did build my own. The biggest issue was the hit a computer took running it AND the game. Mine did ok, but I just couldn't move my head fast enough to see what I wanted to see. But it was a cheap way to find out I really didn't want TrakIR.

I'm not sure about other sims, but this one takes a good computer to run it with all the goodies. Maybe your running out of CPU. You could try turning down the eye candy in the game to free up some head room and see if you still get the issue.

I have a quad core its a real hot box. I'm leaning toward the lag idea as I see much more warping in this sim 90 degree break turns ect I'm thinking there is a relation ship between the warping on the server and how tir interprets it. The thing is I don't have this issue when I play AH off line.
The jury's still out if i didn't fly so many other sims I wouldn't see there was an issue but its very apparent

Raven, my experience with Trackir problems (I had many break-in issues when I bought mine) says:

1. use a powered USB hub, otherwise, trackir function'll cut out during play
2. Turn off all light sources behind you/in the sensor's aspect of view - of course, Trackir provides a view of what the Trackir sensor sees. If it's more than the three reflectors, you've got a light interference issue.
3. Make sure, again by checking tracking, that the clip is in the sensor's field of view.

Doing those three things got me to a place where all I had left to do was tune my profile. Since then, it's worked relaibly with one notable exception: if I raise my head past vertical, it'll often give me a view of the cockpit seat. I can only recover my normal view by F12-ing (fn F12 on my mac, actually); recentering the view.
Some say revenge is a dish best served cold. I say it's usually best served hot, chunky, and foaming. Eventually, you will all die in my vengeance vomit firestorm.

I just started using trakir about 2 months ago.  it was hard to get used to it but changed my speed to 1 and smooth to 40  ever since then I can keep track of all the planes.  it is possible that something changed in your settings and you are not used to it.

you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

Very recently, I've hooked up my Track IR again and I am having similar issues.

I assumed it was my lack of experience with it, but I'm curious if it was something else.
