observations on the damage model

Some planes seem to have a tendency to take specific damage.  Is it only my imagination or if not, is this based in reality?  Not whining, just curious.

For instance:

C-202       seems to get the engine block seized in a single burst

109 E-4    wing cannon damage

P-40E       frequent flap damage

F6F          oil hits

Ki-84        pilot wounds

Mossy       pilot wounds

P-47         main fuel hits/fires

Why don't certain aircraft catch fire?  Spits wings break off like stale crackers but never a spark (except one I downed with a SpitI). 
Lancs don't seem to catch fire, even when wings get blown off.  And did B-24s really light up that easily or is it just in game? 
Also, the wirble seems more resistant to bomb splash damage than the Panzer.

Yes, B-24s were known for their tendency to catch fire.

Is it me or do B-38s never come back with both engines in working order :D

If you ever worked with a radial engine, you'd know they pretty much start that way anyway. :D

Given the location of the main fuel tank in the P-47, I don't understand why they always get hit there.

yah i think so in the p40E because everytime i up in it i always loose flaps first and then my plane can fly level p38 gotta a large unprotected canopy to so they get pilot wounds easly even with a pistol

Hmmm...  I fly the Ki84 as my primary fighter...  I don't feel like I get pilot wounded more then any other plane.  In fact, I rarely get pilot wounded.  But, when in a fight, if I know the other guy is about to get a full silhouette shot on me I will often roll 90 degrees to present him with a smaller target.  Maybe that's why I don't PW'd very often.

yup, main fuel hit in the jug every time. thats why I take 100% fuel - just so I can keep enough in the aux tank to get home.

lancs do flame up quite nicely if you pour .50 into the fuselage :)
