What we are missing here too is the radiator flaps. They could be deployed on ANY speed to slow down the plane. This was used pretty much by LW/other 109 users to decelerate. Also flaps were used during combat to enhance the turn, but according to an excellent book Pilot's view, the 109 was a good turner even without use of flaps. As a sidenote..at 350km/h U could pull the 109 as much as U liked and it didn't stall, because of the stiffer controls. And when stall buffeting occured, just ease on stick a bit but can still pull. When slats pop open, then U need to be more careful, since the edge of envelope is near. But we don't have them in AH,if I recall right, neither the radiator flaps(manual/auto).Still..109 is NOT the best turning plane, but can hold it's own.
