Miep Gies, famous as the womand who helped hide the Frank family from the Nazis during WWII and saved the diary of Anne for posterity, died today at the age of 100.
Gies never claimed to be a hero, but nonetheless fought against hatred and inequality from one of the darkest moments of human history until her death.
We often remember those who went to war, but it is often such moments of simple valor that are the greatest testament to the human soul.
