Buffs

Just heard on the military channel how the term Buffs came about. Stands for Big Ugly Fat ........ You have to use your imagination. I'm probably the last hear about this..aren't I.  :o

Well - i think they used Big Ugly Fat Fellow as well - probably moreso back in the day - but i have heard it both ways.

That's what I heard; that the B-52 was the first to be called a buff.
A Rook who first flew 09/26/03 at the age of 13, has been a GL in 10+ Scenarios, and was two-time Points and First Annual 68KO Cup winner of the AH Extreme Air Racing League.

i first heard someone use that term to describe a B-52....which makes more sense IMO

The term "BUFF" can be traced back to RAF spitfire pilots describing the Lancasters as they watched them crossing the channel early in the war. This is according to an interview with spitfire pilots for the series Spitfire on the BBC. And yes, I am referencing a television interview.

And the brit in the interview used Big Ugly Fat Fellow.

SLUF .. aye .. you would have loved watchin the one at Edwards with the F-16 motor in it :)

They had a 'stock' SLUF begin takeoff roll and the Hot Rod alongside .. the Hot Rod crossed 10k agl before the 'stocker' had reached pattern alt.
