What would be cleaner?
« on: January 11, 2010, 11:11:52 PM »
Eating off the sidewalk after it has been baking in the hot sun in the middle of august for 10 hours, probably reaching about 140 degrees

or

Eating off the same sidewalk except in dead winter covered in 2 feet of snow?

I'd go for summer.  Bacteria are very good at desaturating their membranes in order to tolerate cold, but at ~140 F proteins denature (except for thermophiles) and membranes can lose their selective permeability, i.e they are vulnerable.

Well if the sidewalk is "covered in snow", I'll eat off the snow.

I don't thin 140 degrees is enough, so I'm going to go with the cold scenario.  You will let us know the correct answer, right?

Now that all depends on the color of said snow.
