Connection Problems im Stumped
« on: January 14, 2010, 02:39:40 PM »
Been playing this game for years connection has never been a problem until lately, when i hit my aceshigh icon to start the game it will start but it looks like its froze then after a few seconds (10 to 15) then the clipboard pops up i click online and again it takes a few seconds it pops up, now i really dont have a problem connecting to Arena's except BLUE and sometimes the special events arena always get a host connection lost, but today i keep getting the downloading new map ( which i have all the maps already) but when it tries to download the map it will lock up to a stop as far as downloading the file and i have to hit cancel or finish later  (even thou i already have it in my terrains folder) it wont reconize that i have it already. heres my computer ans DX Report

Actually, your problems start at hops #3, and #4.  All bets are off after that.  The last hops is showing packet loss indicative of what is happening on the retrun trip to your computer, whichi s a different router over the Internet.

Bascailly, your Internet connection  is a mess.  You need to contact your ISP about this.

Another thing.  You seem to have a lot of bloat in the background as well.  Might want to clean up those processes.

how come its not letting me download the maps? like ive said i can play the other arenas the download always stalls on LW Blue even going to the terrains download and getting the maps from there and installing them it still tries to download it when i try to enter in LW B    and what are you meaning by bloat? and how does one clean that up?   and (sorry to bug you)  why is line 14 a dead hop

sorry again  what do i tell my ISP this is a small town and there probally not very internet smart ( i hope they are) what should they be looking for?   incase they try to say theres nothing they can do about it, it just puzzles me because i can play any PC online game i have including AH except LWB  and this has been happening sense patch2 never had connection issues ever with this game

The last, or next to the last hop, in any trace, traceroute, or Ping Plot is always a switch or computer device and not a router.  Those devices will normally never drop a packet.  Due to the asynchronous nature of routing (packet takes a different route back than the one it came over), any packet loss on the return trip will show up at the last hop in a trace where the path divergence occurs.

Terrains do not come from the game servers.  They come from another server located at The Planet. Try 70.87.104.98 if you are having troubles with terrain downloads.

Also note, as I said before, once a trace utility encounters a packet loss situation, all data after that point is subject to showing problems.  Every trace you show has a problem at hops #3 or #4, which is under your ISP's control.

This problem is not patch related.  You have shown clear evidence your connection is having issues.  Send your ISP the Ping Plot data and ask them if they are aware there are problems occurring.

Your computer shows a very high usage of the page file space.  Given you have enough system RAM for this to not be an issue, it says your computer is running some very large programs in the background.

In the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), select the "Processes" tab, then take a look at the lower left hand corner where the total process count is listed. In a normal Windows XP system, it is between 19 and 21. Most OEM systems have around 45 to 65 processes, which is just way too many.

Next, take a look at the CPU percentage used. In a normal Windows XP system, the CPU usage should bounce, like a heartbeat, between 0 and 1 or 2%. You will need to watch this for a minute of two. My guess is, you are seeing it bounce upwards to 4 or 5 percent (or higher). Which is far too high and will impede the game performance significantly.

Unfortunately, there are no standards when it comes to what needs to run with Windows XP. OEM's complicate things by using their own custom version of Windows XP, so I cannot make a recommendation as to what can be safely shutdown or how to go about doing it.

Skuzzy thanks for the post, ok my computer was home built and retail version of XP Pro 64bit i have been looking at the processes like you said to and with Aceshigh running (im in midwar arena right now) and 2 IE windows open its showing 33 processes and CPU usage of 0% up to 3%  with the game running and 2 IE windows open my commit charge is 830m of 9556m now i closed AH and 1 IE window processes are now 31 with a 398m/9556m commit charge ... note,, that when i came out of AH i seen my CPU usage was around 10% including 2 IE windows open also.

ill take the print out to my ISP (there about 1/2 mile away) and ill even have them run a tracert from there office, as far as the downloads i dont know if you understood maybe you did but ill try again, i can go to  70.87.104.98  and click downloads i have no trouble downloading and installing them, its when i try to enter LWB and now LWO  it goes right into the downloading new terrain which i have already downloaded and installed into AH terrains folder  i dont know why it keeps wanting me to autodownload that terrain.

thank you for your help Roy, i dont want to get so frustrated i just quit, its just weird

edit....i unhooked my router just going from the cable modem right into my computer and i got this report i dont see any lost hops

All the problems you list can be caused by your router.  Every consumer router I have ever seen has to be power cycled from time to time to keep them running right.

Yes, but you need to trace to the downloads server IP address I gave you as that is where the terrain is coming from.

What about the processes?  33 is a bit high for a self-built computer.

By the way, the CPU usage when Aces High is running has to be 100%.  Aces High should show 98 to 100% usage in the task manager.

31 processes  i dont know how to take a screen shot to show you all the processes (where do the SS go) ok AH is running im in MW minimized AH back to desktop  task manger is reading CPU usage 0-1% commit charge is 749/9556 i see AH in taskmanger and its using 273,516K memory which makes 32 processes running

Zoom, Maximize TM, hit the 'print screen' button (should be to the right of the F12 key), then paste it into word.  I've got a 64 bit too and our systems are very similar...I lean mine down to 17 processes with bare bones windows systems running when playing AH.  Good luck...I know how frustrating it is.   :salute

thanks i got it saved but its called metalfile and i cant upload it sense its not a reconized format for pics, dont know how to convert it sense i dont have any photoshop type programs, people ive talked to say 31 processes isnt bad, ive got 8 gigs memory weither that matters or not, I have never had a problem playing the game ever !

Ive reformatted my whole computer, drivers, lastest bios, blah blah blah..reinstalled AH 3 times now went to there main page downloaded all the terrians from the download page and installed them all, i see them all in the terrains folder in AcesHigh.

NOW i click enter EW  the clipboard will hang for 30 to 40 sec's then im in and can play forever with a frame rate of over 190FPS ok cool its working in EW,   NOW i click MW arena same 30 to 40 sec wait and im in and can play all day 190FPS , Dueling arena click it same delay and bang im in 190fps and can play forever, training arena same results as above,

NOW when i try to enter LW orange or blue the maps are OZKansas (orange) and Tagma is the map in blue for right now, BUT everytime i click to enter, the terrain updater starts to download the terrain (that i already have in my terrains folder) it will go from 32565 bytes per sec to 455 then host connectrion lost,   why is it trying to redownload those two maps and not the ones for  EW, MW, Dueling, Training Arenas, this makes no sense at all,  i can go into those 4 arena's ive listed it reconized the terrain in the terrains folder and let me in, why wont it reconize that i already have OZKansas and Tagma.res file??

why is the terrain downloader stalling or better yet why is it trying to redownload a map i have already?
i even tried it without pre downoading and installing the terrains, clicked on EW the terrain updater would appear (because i had no terrains in my terrains folder yet) it would start off 33000+ bytes per sec and slowly go down to 440 bps then host connection lost, even if i clicked  resume later it would take a minute for the installer stop (even thou its doing nothing)  im running ping reports for all the address skuzzy gave me there in the next post
