a poll
« on: January 14, 2010, 07:53:17 PM »
Could we have a poll with a few different setups and see what people would like to have in the AvA?

It might be best to start with a popular map/setup first to get numbers up, before we try something crazy.

or you could just tell them what you'd like to see in there. I hear they're pretty good listeners.

Yeah, I hear ya, but the soccer war set-up is anything but new and has been very popular in the past, believe it or not.

I always enjoy the early war setups myself. It's easy to find late war action in the MAs but early war fights are a bit more elusive, much less historical matchups.

The reason i asked was because i dont know what they have done b4 i also dont know the maps we have (i know some but i havent gon through all of them)

If you would like in a weeks time im sure i could come up with a few different ones (pending we have the proper maps)

That will be my new mission for tomarrow, Ill go through all the maps i have downloaded do a quick look through the 856 books i have, and come up with some things...

When is the last time they did BoB?

We were flying german vs russian last week, how long have we done that?

Do we tend to see more action with US Vs JP? GE vs SU? GB vs JP? GB VS. GE? or US vs GE?
im thinking mid to late war would draw more people but thats just me thinking...
Persanally i like early war, but as we can see from the MA that doesnt draw too many people.

With no skins for Honduras and El Salvador, and no Latin American terrain, I have to admit that this setup is unappealing to me.

it has? seriously?  goodness where have I been ?

this week is the first time I ever recall seeing this Soccer Set up in the Avsa in damn near 9 years or 8 yrs? CT came in 2002? is that right?

instead of a poll.... one can easily just surf thru the pages back thru this forum to find many many different setups that have been used,,,,,,

also, for those that are unaware... you can change your settings for your BBS page layout......... like I have my posts set to like 50 or 60 per page.that way when most of you see 15 pages or so. I only see 3 or 4 pages in reference to the same thread....... makes things a heck of alot easier in my opinion.....

USCH, the AvsA has some of the best maps there are available .....similar to the FSO's & scenario maps......

you must be new to the AvsA arena ........ I recommend you fly in there for about 2 or 3 months.before jumping to conclusions without a good feel of what the AvsA has to offer ya.....

just a friendly recommendation

Actually, 2001 - and I was the 4th admin. I was recruited by former squadmate Brady and was inducted on December 15th, 2002.

As for the 'no latin america' skins, ummmm... sure, we'll get on that. :D

This is a good setup - interesting fights of the F4U-4 vs the Pony. :aok

I did a quick "soccer war" search and it looks like it was run back in 2003 anyway.

Sounds like fun to me.

Another thing that occurred to me is that if I'm not mistaken, friendly icons don't disappear, so there should be no problem telling an enemy F4U from a friendly one.

Yep I ran it under Brady and then we ran it a second time on a different map to see if it would work. The first map was the Perdonia and the second was CBI. I remember it worked much better on CBI than it did on Perdonia.

ah yes. but are any of you able to pick up all 3 or 4 enemy F4U's or P51's that are attacking you from 2 or 3 different angles while being in the no icon area of the setup?  one is somewhat ok. but when you got 3 or 4 diving in.diving below to lose their icon and coming at you from 2 or 3 different angles.... then it gets very rediculous.......

and that wind.......geez I took 15 different screenshots showing 15 different wind directions speeds, cross winds, tail winds etc.... is like you are flying in a cyclone or tornado........ what purpose?  some of the wind stuff is perfectly okay but who flys in a tornado or a hurricane type environement during AirCombat?  this wind setting is to sifi ....but hey.maybe it goes with this particular setup  they all must of been on LSD in 1969  :O :x :noid :neener:  :t  <----things they were visually experiencing during this campaign ( or maybe the CM setting up the wind effects  :neener:   :rofl )

I must say I do/did enjoy the fights though.........  especially the onesI had against Oldman  :salute

It's tough, that's for sure, but I think that makes it much more accurate.  Seeing other planes, especially when you're down low, is more difficult than you might imagine, and we've all read plenty of accounts of pilots who were snuck up on.  The low-level no-icon setting seems to have been getting a very positive response.

We're trying to read the pulse of the crowd on the wind settings.  In favor of the settings:  while they may not necessarily be meterologically typical, they do throw an element of uncertainty into flying which in many ways resembles the turbulence and wind shears that do exist.  AND they make it tougher to land your kills.

Heh.  Like Jaeger, you enjoy playing with your food.  I always learn something from my deaths at the hands of TC, and the fights really have been good.

I thought about lowering my Screen res to 1024 x 768  just for flying in the AvsA so I can see Larger plane shapes  .......

I would think I could truly pick up the planes with no icons if it was all LIFE SIZE.......

the different & higher resolutions to me make it very unrealistic........ plane shapes are like 1/64th the size of what you would see in real life if you was flying for real at these distances...... ( my own personal opinion )

Blue F4U's would not blend into the Central American landscape in RealLife , but in the arena they are nearly impossible to see at 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200 resolution.... unless you are following one before the icon disappears......  try picking out 2 or 3 planes on the deck never seeing their icon....... you would be hard pressed to pick out just one no icon ufo let alone 2 or 3.... or 4......

so I will give that a try to see if it helps....... heck I might even go to 800 x 600 .........

I have noticed that if you gain the angles 2/3rds of the people I have come up against have dove straight for the deck to try and make you lose sight of them....... I find this most funny

The icon disapearing at low alt is not even 1/16th as bad as the Cyclone/Tornado dancing wind......... Wind sheer is one thing.... but seriously...... Real Wind does not rotate like the settings do in this setup or like the last 1 or 2 setups. when this began.....

I think it needs to be tweaked on to get it more realistic.....

seriously....... everyone go to the AvsA  take off and open the E6B chart........ watch the different Wind Readings change continously and in clockwise rotation on wind Hdg and then jumping all around. then counter clockwise rotation....... then tail winds blowing same time as head wind and same time as cross wind......how is that even possible?

All the different setting s( Tail, Head, Cross ) are showing wind speeds and the wind direction is going around..... it changes mph of wind going thru the different alts. or when you turn from say hdg 000 to hdg 090..etc.....

I ditched one time last night......and sitting there on the ground stopped... I was doing like 9 TAS and had a 3 mph   head wind......  :rofl

it is fun though........

landing is no problem,

fighting 2 to 4 is no problem  as long as you can see them.......
but if you kill em all be ready for them to come hunt you down in a frenzy state of mind.......
each time they come back be ready for them to attack in force and from all directions.....
and front quarter shots the 2nd or 3rd time they come back....... whatever it takes they want you to blow up.......  :D

hope to have some more good fun in there before this "Out of This world" setup is changed out to the next one......
