Dumb question. Is it out in DVD yet? I haven't seen it at the local shoppette for rent yet.
After it came out, went to the blockbuster rental (hollywood, whatever it's called), and they only stocked one copy to rent per local store.  Even wally-world didn't have it for sale at all.  I ended up finding it in Suncoast (or whatever the name is of the movie stores they have in every mall).

Plenty of copies at Wallyworld here. I thought it was a very good movie and even my wife enjoyed it(she's a tree hugger).

I thought the movie way too short and I went away wanting to know more. He had 3 days left in the tour, and BAM!, he's in a grocery store back in the states?! Then it ends with him back in Iraq walking down the street. :frown:

He's a "war junkie", and that's pretty much the theme throughout the whole movie, from when the colonel commented on his hundreds of disarmed bombs, to when his teammates contemplated murdering him because he was a dangerous risk taker. Back home he didn't feel "real", it wasn't the "real world" to him (and other "war junkies"), so he re-upped and went back to the war, smiling.

Yeah you're spot on there. That puts the movie in a different light for me. I'd like to go back and watch it again. It's a interesting character study, but I don't know if it's deserving of an Oscar. :headscratch:

Yeah the quote at the very beginning of the movie is very important to remember throughout the film, "The rush of battle is often a potent and lethal addiction, for war is a drug”.

I kind of agree with you on that, however I'm struggling to think of another 2009 movie that does deserve an Oscar for best picture. Avatar had a more emotional impact on me (I'm a sucker for long-odds hero stories), but it was far too flawed for an Oscar.

Yeah as far as Avatar goes it definitely wasn't Oscar material, it was just really visually stunning.  As for Hurt Locker I really enjoyed it, and the last few years the Academy has gone towards the independent movies for Best Picture.

Yeah, the independent filmmakers have become way better at producing decently written and directed films than Hollyweird the last 10 years or so.

Considering the trash that's came out of Hollyweird in the past several years, the academy doesn't really have that much to choose from. Thank goodness a another Brokeback Mountain wasn't made.

You said it, even though I never have, nor would I ever see that.
