new big city question
« on: January 18, 2010, 02:29:07 PM »
Ok, just a question here...Why cant we just bomb anything??  The city is pointless if we just cant bomb anything. If your going ther eyou might as well bomb anything. You ave about 5-10 seconds to hit your target before you overshoot. Plus the lag is crazy if you going over low.

Why would you want to bomb anything? It won't help the 'war effort' as much as hitting troops, or ammo, would.

What does it matter???  When you bomb the troops or ammo or anything, in what way does it help the war effort????

With the pinpoint accuracy we have now your saying the target isnt big enough?

In certain areas you can bomb everything, consider the non-bombable areas high valued civilian or historical areas.

Like the Vatican or many different other historical churches....

Slows down the regeneration of troops/ammo at airfields.

I didn't know that......Say you get it down to 50%........Does it take 50% longer to regenerate?

Actually, it might be interesting if you took a penalty for hitting the unbombable areas.

Say we are talking just about troops.

If you properly take down the city first, then the training strat.
I think you can be looking at a lot more than 50% respawn time.

Normal respawn would be 15 min?

I think if you did everything "right" that you could change that to over an hour. Possibly 2 hours.

Then you'd still have to go kill all the barracks at the front line fields to have an effect.

Where's one of those experts when you need one?

Well in real life, especially at night they did pretty much bomb whatever..

I think it would be nice if hitting anything did indeed cause that building to be destroyed, and show in the buffer, and count as points.

Strat works in a chain. The more damage to City, the longer the rebuild of factories. The more damage to factories, the longer the auto-resupply of base strats (radar, ordnance bunkers, barracks, ack). It is all percentage based.

The 81st hosts strat runs as often as we can. From what we can tell (based on the help site description) if you knock the industrial center down to 0% it's supposed to take 3 hours for it to rebuild. If you knock the training facility down to 0% it would take 3 hours but it requires the city to rebuild. So if you hit city, then training, you can effectively knock out troops for 6 hours. The most damage we've been able to do is knock the city down to 4%. My question is the flak towers in the city, are they considered part of it? It takes 20,500 pounds to drop the city (by specs, using 84x250 pounders, we always use 500's) but if you throw the flak towers into it (just the 2 in the industrial center itself) that numbers jumps to 92,500 pounds.

uh uh. the americans and the british took totally different approaches. british night bombing killed thousands upon thousands of civilians and no strategic targets. it was pure anti morale against the germans. the americans day raids would only attack major war facilities inside those cities such as bremen with its production factories.
