This would be a great addition for events like FSO.

I'm guessing to search and destroy Cargo ships running supplies out in the ocean.

Because FSO and Scenario designers can not adjust the course of barges.

It would be nice to have Cargo ships or convoy fleets to help recreate certain scenarios. Think of the Battle of the Bismark Sea where the Japanese were trying to get troops to New Guinea but came under allied air attack. Right now to simulate it we basically set up a fleet of DDs and CAs since we can plot their course. Would be nice to able also have merchant ships for this role when creating a design for players.

Targets, targets, and MORE targets.

Lightly defended targets of opportunity.
Consider the sea going barges and troop carriers used in the Pacific as a start.
Carried troops, supply's, perhaps a tank, etc.

Tramp steamers chugging along at 8knots from port to port with a mixed cargo.

In short, more things to kill.

Also it ties into special events as noted, and immersion as well.

Beat me to it. Also in the North Baltic sea as allies send supplies to Russia and Mediterranean sea during the Africa Campaign

Excellent idea, I say 'aye'. Those merchant ships would make great targets for the dive- and torpedo-bombers.
