Taking a small unexpected vacation
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:07:54 PM »
to Ft Worth, TX in mid Feb. Going down on a business trip w/my dad for a few days.

Was wondering if you guys could offer any good advice on restaurants around the Ft Worth Convention center or the HI Express on Lancaster Ave.
Flying in Monday the 15th night, be at the show 16th and 17th, fly home the 18th in the afternoon. Not long but it's better than upstate New York. Not much free time but I figured my dad and I could get a few ideas for restaurants. Also unsure of the car situation, just getting a rental but it is being shared with the other guy we're down there with, assuming we can go out to eat together... :pray So basically just some recommended restaurants if you guys have any near there!
Unsure if there are any guys here who will be at the event (TASBO) but if there are our company is PCS.

I'll be sure to wave to HTC on final if the winds are from the south. :)

PS - Will be in need of a couple movie titles to watch on the plane. :)

Thanks in advance.

eat at fuddruckers, they have one close to the airport, and watch "Memphis Bell" and "The Longest Day" and possibly "Battle of Britain

Well these movies are better than when a JetBlue flight had us watching Air Force One flying to PHX. :)

Tupac - The restaurant seems great, it's kind of in a bad place as it's right between the airport and city...not sure if we'll be eating when we get in as it'll be 8 at night...but I'll definitely check it out and see if we can!

Downtown Ft. Worth has a ton of good restaurants all within walking distance of the convention center.  It all depends on what your preference and budget for food is.

"Risky's BBQ" is a Ft. Worth staple.  Corner of Main and 2nd.
Across from Risky's is "Cowtown diner".  Home style cooking.  Pretty awesome.
Trendy and hip would be "Grace".  A bar/resturant.  Pricey, but cool.  777 Main St.
High end with a cool roof top bar, is "Reatta".  Eclectic menu includes ostrich...
Several steak places ranging from high end to low end.  "Ruth's Cris", "Del Frisco's", "Mercury Chop House".
My Wife's favorite is "Piranha's Killer Sushi".  4th street, west of Throckmorton.
"Flying Saucer Emporium" for good/inexpensive German food.  Also roof top.
There is also Tex Mex.

Downtown Ft. Worth is a very safe place to walk around at night.  The city has created a nice area downtown. If you hit "Sundance Square", you will find many other resturants as well.

Not Fort Worth but close enough to get there in a little drive time. I ate there the first time about a year ago when meeting a friend and it was a great place to go.

Bone Daddy's House of Smoke.  - if you like Hooter's, you'll love this place.  Been to the Grapevine location.  There are several in the DFW area.

Bone Daddy's is definitely a cut above Hooters, but the BBQ is only fair.

Thanks for all the recommendations! Going to be tough to choose two. :( Will probably end up hitting that Risky's place one night,  unsure of the next...up to my dad for the time being, guess it will be whatever works into our 'situation'. Decisions decisions...

"Del Frisco's

well done.  Del Frisco's and Morton's are without a doubt the two best steak houses in the country.

as for a great movie for the plane......I never see enough love here for the ORIGINAL "Flight of the Phoenix"
