New Zealand is a member of the British (not English) Commonwealth. It does not belong or have any dependencies in any way shape or form to "England". England, as a country, doesn't really exist, but rather is a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Queen Elizabeth II is Head of State of New Zealand, but again this does not imply any servitude or dependence on the UK.

In effect, your statement is roughly similar to saying the Canada is a commonwealth of Texas.

Wales.  Country, the English invaded and started recruiting bowmen.
Scotland.  Country. The English invaded and had a little spat with William Wallace.
Northern Ireland.  Not a country cos the English couldn't hold all of it.
New Zealand.  Country, the English invaded and started shipping sheep there (and the kinda people who like sheep, nudge nudge wink wink *cough* Vulcan *cough*).
Australia.   Country, the English invaded and started shipping convicts there.  

It all started with England cos the English are the root of all evil.
