best buy replacement card
« on: January 23, 2010, 12:57:49 AM »
My Nvidia 9800 GT 512 card went out, have service plan with best buy. they replaced the card with a BFG 9800 GT 1 GB with EcoIntelligence low Power design. before with my old card my FR stayed in the 50's range most of the time, now 30's and 40's. talked to BB and was told this is a better card than my old one because of the 1 Gi of Me. Anyone know anything about this card.

this is in a HP Pavilion Elite M9350F PC
               AMD9850 Quad-core
               6 Gi mem

think they are mistaken.  think the 9800gtrx+ is better if you have the ps and the space.

Just because the card has more memory does not mean the card is faster, only that it has more memory.

If you can find the exact make/model of the cards we could help you much more.

The old card was faster Architecture.   90% of the 1GB cards are slower than their 512MB counterparts.   Might want to ask if they can cut you the difference on a 512MB card.

Thanks guy's, don't know with happen but last night played for 5 hours, the card cave me a 60 FR and stayed in that range all night, set evrything to Max, have never done that before and it still stayed in the 50FR range. Was real happy with it. This is a small card that will fit in cases that the old 8800/9800 would not and only needs a 350W power supply, no 6 pin connector needed. And no noise. Maybe BFG has done something right. will update how it runs in a couple of days.

I'm very happy with the new card, Been on missions allmorning and only time FR went below 50 was on a couple of very large GV missions then it was mid 40's. It is a lot better than my old 9800 GT. Hard to belivie.  This is with everything turned on and sliders Max.
Learned that when I sign on it takes a couple of minutes to get to full power.
