Served in 443 Sq., 127 wing HQ, 401 Sq.,411 Sq., 412 Sq. Converted to 2 seat in 46 sold to the Indian Air force in 48. Now at Duxford in the colours it wore in its first Unit for DDay
This Aircraft has done its service for all the free world and then some.
Yes Spit XIV have a 5 blade prop(some experiments with 2*3 blade contra rotating props)

Au contraire.

IMO, the SPITFIRE is the best looking piston fighter ever to make the leap from drawing board to the skies.

In fact, the best looking by far.

The spitfire Mark 22 had a 6 bladed contrarotating prop (3&3) This basicaly eliminated any torque effects and made it one of the fastest aircraft in WW2. It could out perform a Dstang with ease + It could outclimb a 152. It was truly amazing.

For those in the UK they have one at Duxford

The 22 and 24 only toyed with counter-rotating props. Most by far of the very few 22 and 24 built had the standard 5 blade propeler. The 22 was NOT a WW2 plane they were only built after the war ENDED. The seafire 47 used the counterrotating prop more thoug. The last spifire in WW2 was the Mk21 but this one is no differnt than German desperation efforts like the He162 as it only saw service in the last week of the war and proudly served the British empire by sinking a one man midget submersible attack boat.  :)
