Monitor Cable
« on: January 27, 2010, 04:29:58 PM »
I have a Sony PVM-2530 that I plan on using as the monitor for my new computer. The only problem is this: What comes out of my video card is a 15-pin female, and the monitor's connection is a 25-pin male, which looks like this. My video card is a GIGABYTE G GeForce GT 220, with pictures available at Newegg. The picture of the monitor is of a PVM-2030, but they both have the same plugs. According to the manual, there is a cable called a SFM-500 25 pin/9 pin cable that was standard at the time and included with the monitor, but we have no idea where it could/would be. Therefore, I hmust ask the question of: Is it possible to use a 15 pin to 25 pin cable with this, and also, where would I be able to get something of this sort? Or, must I instead get a new monitor? I would like to keep this one, as it is also the screen that I play my Wii, PS2, and N64 on, and being able to kill for systems with one monitor sounds like a pretty good deal.

Thanks,
Enker

I would think the most simple solution would be to look for a 15 pin/25 pin adaptor.

I hate to be stupid but I can't see the pic due to using my crackberry. But my question is does the tv have an HDMI input on it??? If it does than most likely the vid card will come with an adapter so you can run the HDMI cable instead. The only drawback is you won't have sound going thru the speakers. That is the way I am set up now and I don't mind it because I am getting a better sound thru my headset.

Nope, what he's looking for is a proprietary cable that used to come with Sony tv/monitors...I've been scouring the house since Enker posted this thread and I can't find the one I had...might have gotten tossed out with the old Sony monitor it was attached to.

Enker, is it possible to use something like this?

Alright, thanks Ack-Ack.

ebdf11, unfortunately, the monitor is a fossil. Its most recent port is either the RCA jacks or the S-video jack.

Thanks Gyrene, but I don't think that will work. From what I can see, there isn't anything that resembles the set.

So far, I have only been able to find a DB25 to DB9 and a DB9 to HD15. My only question is: will I lose some quality if I combine the two adapters? Apparently, DB25 to HD15 adapters are about as hard to find as Waldo in an I Spy book. 3 hours of search, and I forge on.

Edit: You know what, forget it. I'm just going to keep my Sony for the consoles, and get a newer monitor, possibly a Dell 18.5" for $100, because I have a Best Buy card that I want to get rid of.

whew...that's a good idea Enker. Best buy has a 20 inch Acer on sale for $119 but that's probably pushing the money pot a little too hard considering what you spent on the computer.

It's a cable that had a 25pin male connector that connects to the Sony video monitor and a 15pin female connector that connected to the video card.  Like you said, it's an old model and really hard to find the cable for it.  I remember using them at CH when we had a booth at one of the E3s, heavy friggin' things but it did have a nice picture.

Since it is a proprietary cable, not sure if a simple 15pin to 25pin adaptor would work but there is a good chance it will.
