To be clear, Im not "pissed" or anything that I didnt get the kill with the rockets, the egg took care of it anyway.   I had always heard the same as was stated here, that those rockets were pretty much a 1 hitter quitter against GVs period end of discussion, and here I landed a hit to the rear of T34, and nothing.    I guess anything is POSSABLE..

but considering you have a vehicle with armor less than 60mm thick, being hit by an anti-tank rocket that penetrates 160-220mm depending on angle..  the likelihood of survivability is.. well there is none.

Here is the way I see it, which could be way off, but hey, it's free . . .

With all the field ack shooting at him, he was probably getting pegged big time even though your film doesn't show it.  Right at an inopportune moment, his left track is taken out by the auto acks.  As the vehicle leans, your rocket hits.  The trajectory appears to me to be through the track on the right side, and then the hit sprite appears on the rear of the tank.  To me this indicates the hit took out his track, and still had enough power to partially penetrate the rear hull and engine.  Because you did damage to the rear hull and engine, you see the hit sprite.  But the damage was't enough to be fatal because most of the damage was dealt to the tread.

A moment before the tank rights itself, both tracks are "lifted", indicating he was double-tracked.  As the tank rights itself, both come down, but again I think that is a glitch in animation rather than an indication he was suddenly "fixed."

since when do rockets bounce off of anything?

I've had HVARs consistently bounce off tanks at 600 yards out. When I'm really bored, I sneak up on a tank driving my P38 on the ground and fire the rockets.

You'd be surprised how often you can get kills this way.

Those aren't anti-tank rockets, are they?  I've never had that happen with the 190F-8 rockets.

No, I think they are high explosive rockets.

I was joking about the ricochet. But notice how there is a crater RIGHT under the side he's leaning to? I'm guessing thats when you tracked him, and then you got the other track. Or he had supplies near him.

And HARV rockets aren't anti-tank. They're just HE rockets that have luck at killing tanks. I usually take the 38J modle, just for the fuselage mounted rockets.

Ignore the craters that are there at the beginning, its a film viewer glitch.

Rgr that. Then my best guess is that you tracked him, and probably turreted him with that hit there, but then he used some supps placed by previous defenders, or that someone had brought him. That or if there were spawns from two other countries into the base, an enemy tank hit him.

The Pb1 rockets from the 190F-8 are AP.  As well as the rockets from the Il-2/I-16.

The 3.5in and 5in rockets are "GP" (gen purpose).  The 4.5 in rockets I'm not sure about.

Anyways, I've had great luck with taking out tanks with the Pb1 rockets with no noticeable difference in "toughness" in any one tank over the other.  Remember, sometimes the armor does its job.   :aok

They are definitely anti-tank rockets.  I landed 6 GV kills with them one day firing salvos of two.

Even the American rockets can kill a tank pretty easily.  I've done that numerous times in an F6F firing salvos of two or three.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

When I used to fly 190s alot I got fairly decent with the f-8 rockets. My best was I think 5 panzers with 1 rearm.  A direct hit was a kill.  The negative with that big nose it's really hard to aim, plus the seem to have a larger drop than US HVARs.

there were no other tanks in the area, as soon as he died the base quit flashing.

I think they do. I was GV busting with them yesterday, and I couldn't get used to the larger drop, even at D200 I missed. Kinda embarassing.
