Sorry but....
« on: January 29, 2010, 06:22:25 PM »
Well, we tried to last the month and couldn't. I have to come up with money to pay the landlord (late fees and gas utility) That problem I had with the bank still hasn't been worked out. Only thing we have of value left is the computer so I'm having to take it in. It's been fun, but between cartoon planes and a roof, it's a no brainer. Hopefully I'll be able to get it back soon, but last time I had to do this, it took me 6 months. Keep flying, I'll see ya when I see ya.

Did some surgery on the wifes old comp, so I can read forums, but this thing has enuff problems running XP let alone allow me to fly. Looks like Solitaire for a while  :D :( :cry Oh well, that which doesn't kill, better watch the bleep out, right?

Hang in there man, things will look up eventually.  I know it's tough to keep going when things seem at their worst, but they'll come back around.  I always just try to make the next up time a bit higher and the low not quite as low as the last.  I'm pulling for you.

Ok God works in some mysterious ways. Last night I pawn the comp to pay the bill, this morning I wake up and the tax return has been deposited. All I can say is gift horse, mouth, not looking.

You complain about hard times, so hard that you have to pawn off your computer to pay the rent.

But you want to spend your free time in front of the computer, even if you can't play AH you will play solitaire, and post on these boards?

Give me a break. Get your bellybutton outside and get to work. (said in as friendly of a way as possible) There is plenty to do for people who are willing. Dig a ditch, paint a fence, heck go mow a lawn.

I don't feel sorry for anyone who plays this game or even spends any time on these BBS and complains about money or work. If you are seriously hurting, paying for internet or even owning a computer should not be your priority.

This economic hiccup has been pure opportunity for people who know how to work hard and need less.

The Great Depression had countless rags to riches stories.

Out of all my friends the majority of them who whined about this stuff when it started are still whining now. The very few that kept their heads down and worked even harder are doing better than ever.

EDIT: sorry if that sounded a little harsh. Its not directed completely at you, but in the direction of the general public who have these feelings. In my personal experience the majority of people are using this economic situation as an excuse to set at home and collect unemployment, and whine because they can't go out to eat or buy the latest whatever. Guess its just a reflection of the average work ethic in USA.

Glad I waited, your post really pissed me off. You're right, alot of people are using this as an excuse. I'm not one of them. The situation I'm dealing with is not a constant one. Problem was that we had a withdrawal made by the ISP when they weren't supposed to put us negative. We kept getting the "next week it will be fixed" treatment. That money was meant to pay the rest of the bills. Unfortunately There were other transactions waiting to post (the bank held some transactions for 6 days then posted them all at once), we started collecting fees on that. Overall it totaled us over 400$ in overdraft fees (Chase charges 35$ for overdrafts). So now, any money I brought in was covering those fees instead of covering what is what meant to, things like food for example. I had to start pawning our stuff to make up for the money I had lost to the fees so I could buy those little things like food. Why do we have things like the Internet and such, because those bills had been paid for before the fit hit the shan. We had tried to ride out the month, because I have next month's paycheck coming in on the first (and yes it's from an employer, not welfare). Unfortunately things would not wait.

August 2008, I lost a job paying 35k a year. Things were still tight, but in San Antonio, that's enough to be breathe easier when it comes to money. In September we were evicted, and since we were evicted, no other apartments would accept us because everyone was crying about the economy. We spent the next 4 months living out of an InTowne Suites that cost us 209$ EACH AND EVERY WEEK. I was working 2 jobs just to cover the bill, not food or anything else. I worked for damn near every temporary staffing agency in San Antonio. I built door jambs for new construction, tresses for custom homes, I worked at a Coleman plant making those little 5 qt coolers. We sold everything we had to keep going. Since then I have put my family back under a roof, managed to get a decent job, recover most everything we had to pawn, put myself through school (Full time, accelerated), get my Associates and my certifications. And you're going to tell me to get off my lazy bellybutton and go to work? I am f***ing PROUD of what I have accomplished. It may not seem like much to you, but I worked my bellybutton off.

Now the crack about Solitaire, that was a joke. Apparently I have a very weird sense of humor. I was joking about having a great game like this to play, then having to play solitaire if I wanted to game. I know, it ain't funny if you have to explain it.

Sorry if I seem a little touchy, but I worked really hard for this, and I'm still going. The boat is still shaky. I honestly thought we we're going to lose everything again. Last time I thought that there was no way it would happen to me, this time I couldn't help but think that there was no way it wouldn't happen to me. Our income tax came in this morning which allowed us to right the boat. We weren't expecting that till the end of February. That's why I'm thanking God. 2500$ allows us to get back on track and get things back to the way they we're before the ISP screwed up.

Wow man, not too cool at all.  You really could have just kept that diatribe to yourself.  Simply not too classy, but hey,  at least you got to be  highly judgmental over a person and situation you don't really know anything about.

Edit: Madhat, don't feel like you need to explain yourself to people who say stuff like that man.  He doesn't know you or your situation or have any more place to make a post like that about your or anyone else he doesn't know.  When you explain yourself to people like that you're just lending legitimacy to their stance and judgment, when they should have none.  For all he knows you could have had an accident and lost both legs or been working 4 jobs and never slept but then been laid off of them all, or any number of things, all of which could have been out of your control.  He just doesn't have any place for a post like that, it doesn't contribute anything, it's just lashing out at what he imagines someone's situation is.  Totally out of place and uncalled for.

umm...me or him?

*edit* oops nevermind. I understand what he's saying. Yea, people are crying over the economy and waiting for their bailout in the mail. He does have a point. I just don't appreciate being used as a soapbox. Last night I was scared to death, guess I'm still a little gun shy.

Your tax return is not a bailout.  It's the amount  you paid to the government in taxes over the amount that you owed.  The government is just paying it back to you.  No bailout at all, they're returning the money that you loaned to them.

Yea, it's official, I'm going to quit telling jokes cause no one get them.  :D  I was talking about how since the government bailed out banks and auto makers, everyone that Hog is referring too wants a bailout too. The income tax I was surprised at, because it wasn't supposed to show up till the 3rd week in February.
