Yea, it's official, I'm going to quit telling jokes cause no one get them.  :D  I was talking about how since the government bailed out banks and auto makers, everyone that Hog is referring too wants a bailout too. The income tax I was surprised at, because it wasn't supposed to show up till the 3rd week in February.

Ah, my mistake then, I guess I was still a bit riled over the rant above.

You complain about hard times, so hard that you have to pawn off your computer to pay the rent.

But you want to spend your free time in front of the computer, even if you can't play AH you will play solitaire, and post on these boards?

Give me a break. Get your bellybutton outside and get to work. (said in as friendly of a way as possible) There is plenty to do for people who are willing. Dig a ditch, paint a fence, heck go mow a lawn.

I don't feel sorry for anyone who plays this game or even spends any time on these BBS and complains about money or work. If you are seriously hurting, paying for internet or even owning a computer should not be your priority.

This economic hiccup has been pure opportunity for people who know how to work hard and need less.

The Great Depression had countless rags to riches stories.

Out of all my friends the majority of them who whined about this stuff when it started are still whining now. The very few that kept their heads down and worked even harder are doing better than ever.

EDIT: sorry if that sounded a little harsh. Its not directed completely at you, but in the direction of the general public who have these feelings. In my personal experience the majority of people are using this economic situation as an excuse to set at home and collect unemployment, and whine because they can't go out to eat or buy the latest whatever. Guess its just a reflection of the average work ethic in USA.

Well MadHatter, I take back what I said towards you. I'm sorry, but after just reading your first post it really sounded like another whine about the economy and feel sorry for me type post. I don't take back what I said in general, it just shouldn't have directed at you.

The reason I went off is because I've seen/heard so much of this lately, and haven't said anything, so its been building up.

There are a LOT of people out there crying about the economy while they set on their bellybutton and collect unemployment. A lot of people whining because they can't go out to movies or eat at nice restaurants like they used to. A lot of these people are in the situation they are in because of how they behaved 5 years ago when times were good. Making speculative investments with the majority of their money, buying luxuries beyond their income, getting balloon loans to buy houses they couldn't afford, etc. And now they are stuck in the situation because they can't see the big picture. They can't reduce their needs, and many of them simply don't know how to work in a competitive job market.

So MadHatter, I <S> you for working hard and I apologize that I directed that at you. After your reply its obvious you are not the type of person I'm referring to, but I'll leave it up because I'm sure some others who are reading it are.

BTW you should get a new bank. Let me guess you are using Bank of America? I think they have the worst fees, but $400 in fees in one month is crazy.

You should check into a local bank or credit union that has some sort of overdraft protection. My bank has a simple (high interest) loan that is linked to your checking account. Its perfect for the situation you are having, where its just a few days or a week between money going out and money coming in. I'll go over by a few dollars fairly often and it only costs me a few cents rather than $35 each time or whatever the fee is.

Well MadHatter.....

No worries. And, 5 years ago, you would have been dead on target. I was lucky enough to get a wake up call and get to work. I took one of those get rich quick jobs and failed horribly, losing a lot (well not a lot in terms of possessions, but alot of credibility and self worth). But, you're right, alot of people are crying when they don't have the right too. Sometimes people need, what Dad called, Boot to Butt Counseling.

*edit* Nope, using Chase bank. I was a WaMu customer when they were bought out by Chase. I'm looking to move to another bank now.

Try to find a good local bank. Not only will you save money on the OD fees if they have the program I'm talking about, but you'll be putting your money in your local economy. If you are worried about them going under just remember your deposits are FDIC insured, exactly the same as the big banks.

And honestly that's something I was looking at, but we're in a position where I'm looking for a new job (what I have is good, but I'm trying to break into the IT field, and right now it's harder then it sounds) so I may not be here in the area.
