Fun fights Cattb, those are the reasons I even show up in MW.

Just one of those erases an hour of tooling around! Did you happen to film those, I would love to see them if so!

I didn't watch the film but from the conversation this sounds like a HO to me.  It's the "intent" that matters.

From what I assume both planes were headed toward one another.  Strip saw the HO coming and tried to evade (unsuccessfully).  Larry kept his nose on Strip and took the shot from what was now technically a forward deflection angle.

Now, the question is, if Strip hadn't tried to evade would Larry not have taken the shot?  I don't think so.  I think he would have taken it either way.  Strip was clearly not going to take the HO shot as he proved by trying to evade.  So it's a HO.

And this is why "it takes two to HO" is such a falicy.  It only takes one to have the intent and carry it through to HO.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I watched the film ... what it boils down to is that Strip made a horrible merge ... hoped he could get out of it ... paid the price.

If I was in an A20 ... slow and turning towards a P-51 to engage and he dives like a banshee ... I split-S over the top of him and he zooms up in front of me ... I would have sliced him to ribbons too (if I was that good of a shot).

There were a 1000 different ways that P-51 could have merged/engaged and had superior position on the A-20 ... way too many people making crappy merges ... getting spanked on the crappy merge ... and then crying foul.

I tell ya what ... had he merged with Leviathn in the same manner ... he would have died on the first shot (I speak from experience) ... and Leviathn would have most likely gotten a <<S>> instead of a cry of HO.

Nice shot Larry !!!

So you never use external views in bombers?

Then I suggest watching it before making an assumption.

The best part is the whine is recorded from midwar..midwar most nights looks like a bad porn video with face shots every 2 minutes accompanied by cheesy music.

hmm can't agree Slappy,  If someone is lining you up for the HO , one of the best ways to avoid it is dive under their nose to make their shot as difficult as possible. I usually merge that way to get vertical separation anyway. If i'm flying at any of the usual HO planes , I find that merge will usually keep me pretty safe.
