Save the kid the nightmares.  Explain to him/her that episodes 1-3 do not exist, the cartoons do not exist, the only Star Wars ever made were episodes 4, 5 and 6.

The asterik I'd put next to that is: Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

But in this, we are talking about books.

Get the kid into Star Wars books! I have read dozens and DOZENS of Star Wars novels since I first discovered them in middle school. Filled an entire book case! In fact, I would say I have more Star Wars books than military, school, text, and casual reading books combined! They will definitely get the kid hooked on reading!

NO! The ONLY ones worth opening are Zahns from the Bantam run. I'll add the X-wing novels as well, but the rest are absolute garbage. And Kevin J. Anderson is the devil.

It's a 6 year old...start with Episode One - The Phantom Menace...all the new CGI and different characters will get the kids attention better than starting with the original trilogy and you won't confuse the kid.

LOL, hey, I liked the Anderson novels. It's amazing tho how this universe keeps growing. Chewies dead, Jacen going to the dark side, His sister is a bug...weird. But either way, I heard they were going to start pushing the novels out into a TV series. Can anyone confirm that?

I haven't read anything after NJO. I wish I hadn't even read THAT far. Awful.

Oh, mine are limited to the time period between ANH and BEFORE the New Jedi Order and the Yuuzhan Vong. I stopped there, as it just gets weird. The Zahn ones are my favorite, though there are some other authors with some great additions.

Truce at Bakura was ok, and I did love the X-wing novels (I, Jedi was good, too). I also liked Truce at Bakura and Shadows of the Empire.

Courtship of Princess Leia was just WEIRD.
Kevin J. Anderson can just plain suck it. Daala is one of the WORST villains EVER. She wasn't evil, she just was just PMSing REALLY bad. The only thing he did right was starting the write-out of Callista (see below).
The "Callista Trilogy" wasn't worth the time (and the abbreviation for Planet of Twilight was quite appropriate. I think the writer was on it at the time).
If it didn't have "Star Wars" in the name I wouldn't have thought Black Fleet Crisis were even Star Wars novels at all. NOTHING felt right, particularly the way he handled the military organization.
Corellian Trilogy was ok, but not great.
New Rebellion was pretty bad.
Crystal Star was just AWFUL. WORST BOOK I'VE EVER READ.

.....for the very first time, what order would you play them the films?

The subject in this case is 6 years old.

IV, V, VI.

I, II and III don't exist.

Yeah, they had III on the tube down here on Sunday (Revenge of the Sith? Return of the Sith?)

Gawd, what an unrelentingly crap-tacular, steaming piloe of garbage.

The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Black Fleet, I thought, was rather interesting. It could have been done better, but the subject matter particularly intruiged me. I have never been even remotely interested in the Jedi story lines. I prefer the fleet deals. Have you read the Han Solo trilogy? Or the Tales books?

The problem with Black Fleet Crisis is that he completely disregarded the fact that MacDowell ignored material established by ALL sources prior to his trilogy and did his own thing with no real explanation on why the entire fleet was suddenly organized along COMPLETELY different lines. Fleets and starfighter squadrons in Star Wars are organized under completely different rules from any navy we're familiar with, and these rules were established LONG before MacDowell started his trilogy.

I've read a couple of the "Tales" books, but nothing that was written prior to Zahn's first trilogy.
