graphic card quality
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:10:36 AM »
ive got a old graphic card a nvidia  geforce FX 5200 and it would run at high quality (the highest quality where you could read everything in the canopy and not even fuzzy)not able to run detailed terrain or shadows and only able to keep detailed water on for a short limit of time

my computer encountered troubles recently and i reinstalled it and my frame rate improved (greatly was getting 23fr now getting about 44fr)
but my quality is worse how could i get the quality up?

Are you talking about 1024 textures and the hires pack? I'm surprised a FX 5200 was able to run that.   I would have guessed 256 textures would be the highest you could go and still be playable.

Yes, you need to keep the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256 for that video card.  It really does not have the performance to run with the high resolution texture pack.

Depending on resource usage of your computer, you should be able to run the high resolution texture pack, but not with "Detailed Terrain".  The "Detailed Terrain" option will work, but you will quickly get into a stutter fest when you get around a lot of other planes.

The real key to the game is to play with the options until you are happy with the game performance.  Your expectations may not be my expectations.

WOW!!  You have some pretty high tech stuff their!

Getting frame rates of between 35+ and 50 ish.

I'm running the game on a reeeeeeeeeally old Nvidia MX440.

It will depend on what Power Supply you have and it's ratings.   Also, what CPU you have, to best "match" them, as to avoid getting a kickass Video Card, with a 6 year old CPU that will "bottleneck" and vice versa.
