USB Headset
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:29:50 PM »
Hi all,

I have just purchased a USB headset and have a few problems with setting it up, currently I can only have sounds coming out of either my monitor speakers or my headphones..If I want to change it..I need to go into sound propeties and swap over the default playback device between the too..

what settings do I need to adjust to make sound come out of both?

I have Sandberg headset and a Nvidia Nforce 980 mobo

If you mean play the same sounds (Like AH) out of both, to put it simply:  You can't.  (Unless I missed a memo, always possible) :)
If you wanted something like Music through one and AH through the other, that's do-able.

Which did you want?

You hit the nail on the head. Yes, so the speakers and headset play the same sounds..so I can have my headset off and if a squad mate logs on, I can put my headset on and start talking.

Well its not really possible to do that.

You can have 2 seperate sound feeds going out 2 separate devices, but you cant have 1 going out multiple devices without going through a multiport switch.

The sound hardware in computers is not designed that way.  Is there anything you can buy to make this happen, I'm sure there is, I will try to look it up in a few.  Stock config though, no way that I know of to do what you want.

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to do that with a USB headset.

With a good sound card, you can buy a splitter, plug it into the sound out port, and have sound going to both speakers and headset. Which btw is exactly what I do. Bought one good splitter 5 years ago and it still works fine.

However in the case of a USB headset, there is no way to take the output going to the headset and send it to the speakers that I'm aware of.

Also FYI generally speaking a good sound card will require less CPU cycles and give you better performance for AH (And generally better sound) than a USB headset. Even a cheap SB live should give you better FPS and better sound, with more options.

All of the above to the best of my knowledge and in my honest opinion.

My turtle beach USB headphones plug into this interface box that plugs into the computer (usb).  This interface box has a large ps/2 style plug for the headphones (and mic) but also has two smaller (2.5mm?) plugs one for speakers and one for microphone.  I haven't used them but plugging in speakers MIGHT allow them to work at the same time as the headphones, however my guess is that it would turn off the headphones when something is plugged in there...
