What's it worth?
« on: February 09, 2010, 11:43:50 PM »
Looking to sell my wife's old laptop in the not to distant future.  Probably on craigslist, curious what I should sell it at.  Toshiba Satelite P15 Series (circa 2004).  3Ghz P4 HT, 2gb DDR (upgraded), 160gb 5400 rpm HD (replaced last year), Win XP Pro, DVD-RW, 15.4" screen, monster ~9lbs.  Battery holds about 60-90 min.  Near mint condition, especially for its usage.  I see prices vary a lot on craigslist, some stuff is obviously overpriced.  My guess is $150-$200, but then again $500 gets u a new cheap lighter laptop.  Her's new IIRC was about $1900.

If it wasn't do da..... heavy I'd probably keep it.

I sold my 4 year old tower for 300 (to my mom).  was in great shape and I added every Beatles song ever released as a bonus .  It more depends on what you are willing to sell it for.  If you can accept 100 then that's the price if you wont let it go for less than 200 then 200 it is.  Of course if you price it at 500 it probably wont sell. its more like what is worth to you but be realistic about it.  see if any friend/family is looking for an inexpensive computer that a young/older generation can use.

If it were mine, I'd list it at 299 or b/o, and then negotiate downward as needed.  The older P4 3Ghz chip is perfectly fine for business apps, 2 GB is fine, and the screen on Toshiba's were very very good - and a USB drive makes short work of upping disk space for a very reasonable amount should the relatively limited disk space by today's standards be an issue. Bear in mind that I'm in the Boston area - and the biggest factor in how much is reasonable is probably the area where you are listing it.
