Hopefully I put this in the right forum, it doesnt have anything to do with AH but im curious nonetheless.

Ive noticed when I have my bluetooth dongle plugged in, the CPU usage goes through the roof. Is this related to how the drivers/proccess that run the bluetooth, or something more "physical" having more to do with thats actually what it needs to do its thing?

I know next to nothing about bluetooth or how it works, and rarely ever use it as I have a data cable for my phone.

I have yet to see a Bluetooth implementation for a PC (Apple or otherwise) that was not atrocious.

Thanks for the reply skuzzy. Thats pretty much what I have gathered, and that is dont use it if you dont have to.

I did notice when I was installing the software for it, it attempted to install a service for something or another. (I didnt let it)

I don't have any such issue with Bluetooth, either built in or USB dongle...XP or Win7. During the initialization period, it tends to push CPU usage to 50% + but that doesn't last very long. I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with brand/model...I have an LG-Nortel bluetooth hands free setup I use at home and in the office and after it initializes CPU usage is nominal...3-5% steady.

Given the granularity of the task manager, 3 to 5% is just nuts and there is no excuse for it.  Just bad implementations and poorly written software.

You just discovered my definition of atrocious.  Software that takes time away from other things when it is doing nothing at all.

I take it with a grain of salt Skuzzy...considering what applications I have to use it with (Microsoft crap)...less than 10% CPU usage isn't bad.
